Eloп Mυsk: Tesla will sell an upgrade package that “transforms” the Cybertruck electric pickup truck into a boat

Eloп Musk: Tesla to sell upgrade package that ‘turns’ Cybertruck electric pickup truck into a boat

Eloп Musk coпfirmed that Tesla plans to offer a “modification package” that will turn the Cybertruck into a boat, at least capable of traversing 100 meters of water.

Musk has previously claimed that Tesla vehicles could float and briefly serve as boats.

They’ve never taken it too seriously, as Tesla’s warranty says something different about taking the vehicle into water.

But the CEO doubled down on the claim with the Cybertruck, which makes more sense since it’s supposed to be an off-road vehicle.

Last year, Musk claimed the Tesla Cybertruck would be “waterproof enough” to serve as a boat and cross rivers.

The CEO added that the goal is for a Cybertruck to be able to cross the water between SpaceX’s Starbase and South Padre Island in Texas, which is about 1,100 feet (360 meters).

Since Tesla began deliveries of the Cybertruck last month, we’ve learned that the Cybertruck’s off-road mode includes a “wading mode” that pressurizes the battery to seal it.

Now, commenting on a statement made by Lars Moravy, Tesla’s vice president of engineering, about how Cybertruck owners attach an electric outboard motor to the back of the truck to turn it into a boat, Musk added that Tesla plans to sell a package that will turn the Cybertruck into a boat:

We will be offering a modification package that will allow the Cybertruck to traverse at least 100m of water like a boat. Basically, only the cabin door seals need to be upgraded.

The CEO did not provide further details about the package or publish a timeline for availability.

Tesla isn’t the first to consider selling a kit to turn the Cybertruck into a boat.

After Tesla first unveiled the 2019 Cybertruck iP, a company designed a kit that could turn the pickup truck into an electric catamaran, as pictured above.
