Triumph Will Reunite After 17 Long Years!

After years away from the spotlight, Canadian rock legends Triumph are stepping back onstage for a special reunion show

After years away from the spotlight, Canadian rock legends Triumph are stepping back onstage for a special reunion show in Edmonton this Friday night. The power trio will perform a short three-song set ahead of Game 2 of the NHL Stanley Cup Finals, where the Edmonton Oilers face off against the Florida Panthers. They’ll be sharing the bill with Canadian rockers The Glorious Sons during this exciting outdoor event.

A Rock Anthem for the Stanley Cup

Triumph’s 1979 classic “Lay It on the Line” has found new life during this year’s NHL playoffs, thanks to Rogers’ promotional campaigns. With Canada eager for a championship win—it’s been since 1993 when the Montreal Canadiens beat the Los Angeles Kings—the return of a legendary Canadian band feels just right. The event marks Triumph’s first public appearance since 2019, when they played a three-song set for a select group of fans during the filming of Triumph: Rock and Roll Machine, the 2021 documentary about the band. Their last big public concert was back in 2008 at the Rocklahoma Festival.

Why a Full Tour Isn’t in the Cards

Fans hoping for a full-scale Triumph reunion tour shouldn’t hold their breath, though. Bassist Mike Levine set expectations straight back in 2020, telling WRIF: “The answer is probably not. But you never say never because you don’t know.” He added, “I think we’re all getting on in years a little bit; there’s some physical issues that may just not make that possible. Playing three songs, that’s okay, we can do that. But playing a dozen songs, I’m not sure that would work on a big stage, because we’d all probably fall off the stage or something stupid.”

Tribute Album Drops Same Day

Coinciding with Friday’s performance, Triumph will also be honored with the release of Magic Power: All-Star Tribute to Triumph, a new tribute album featuring covers of their biggest hits. Artists like Sebastian Bach, Nancy Wilson, and Alex Lifeson’s Envy of None have all contributed their takes on the band’s iconic catalog.

Rock fans in Edmonton are in for a nostalgic thrill—Triumph is back, even if just for one night.
