Season four of Netflix’s The Witcher is set to arrive next and with it comes a major casting change, namely the charismatic Henry Cavill will be no more.
Ok, saying that Henry Cavill will be no more is a little dramatic. He’s still alive and well, as far as we’re aware. However, in terms of playing the leading role of Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix live-action adaptation, Mr Cavill will no longer be gracing us with his presence in the fourth season. Instead, that honour will soon belong to Hunger Games star, Liam Hemsworth. At least fans can get their dose of Henry Cavill in his upcoming Warhammer 40k cinematic universe.

None of us know for sure as to why Henry Cavill is leaving The Witcher. Some have speculated that it’s due to creative differences between him and the Netflix showrunners. We can only speculate. Either way, Liam Hemsworth has some big shoes to fill and whether or not he can suitably fill that void, remains to be seen.
At the time of writing, we haven’t seen what Liam Hemsworth will look like in The Witcher Netflix series. Yet, that hasn’t stopped fans from creating deepfakes of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia and while this concept doesn’t look as bad as I thought it would, much of the fanbase is not sold on this prospect. Granted, watching the deepfake video of Liam Hensworth with Cavill’s voice is weird, but he won’t sound like that in season four, right? He also looks way to young, but we’ll ignore that for now too.
The deepfake in question was created by and uploaded to the YouTube channel ‘stryder HD’ and again, just by looking at the video in question, I think Liam Hemsworth looks ok but much of the comments section thinks differently.
“Liam doesn’t have this kind of older wiser look to him. It’s like the Disney version of Geralt. Henry is the perfect match, he is one of us – fans. He was so excited for the whole project. Liam will be trying to replicate the impossible,” said martinam7806. “Without Henry’s Geralt voice, I don’t think so. RIP Witcher,” replied an unimpressed Broomrider1492.
“It’s not about the looks but Henry’s voice is the main highlight of the character… Without Henry Cavill, I have no interest and it’s not that Liam Hemsworth is bad or anything but without Henry Cavill it just isn’t gonna work for me,” exclaimed abhishekghosh2686.
Sadly, even if Liam Hemsworth knocks the role out of the park, he may be doomed to fail before we even get to see him in action, as pointed out by IrZ_Kuma. “No matter how good Liam will fill the role, the fact that Henry is leaving due to the writers not liking the source material [allegedly] and straying from the true soul of the franchise then it will fall flat and I fear Liam will get more of the blame than he deserves,” they said.
At the time of writing a release date for season four of The Witcher hasn’t been announced but it might be safe to assume that it won’t arrive until late 2024 or early 2025, if we’re lucky.
