The 36-year love affair of rock band leader Bon Jovi
Jon Bon Jovi and Dorothea Hurley have known each other since high school, got married unexpectedly in Las Vegas 27 years ago and have a happy married life.
Jon Bon Jovi is a singer, producer, and leader of the famous rock band Bon Jovi (founded in 1983). During his career, the male singer had two albums reach number one on the Billboard chart and sold millions of copies around the world. At the age of 54, Jon Bon Jovi is still diligently touring and composing music.

However, what fans cherish most about Jon Bon Jovi is his high school love affair with Dorothea Hurley. They have been married for 27 years, have four children and a lasting love.
In 1980, Jon Bon Jovi – then 18 years old – met Dorothea Hurley during a high school exam. Jon did not study and was forced to turn to ask the girl next to him for answers. From then on, they talked to each other and maintained their friendship. When he learned that Dorothea Hurley was attached to Bobby – Jon’s best friend, he still did not hide his feelings. Jon wrote the song Bobby’s Girls to express his love for Dorothea Hurley. When Bobby entered the army, Jon and Dorothea Hurley were just starting to develop feelings.
They broke up for four years before reconciling. “I went to the house and told Dorothea’s mother straight up that I wanted to get back together with her. And Dorothea melted,” Jon Bon Jovi told VH1.
In the late 1980s, the group Bon Jovi released two successful albums – Slippery When Wet (1986) and New Jersey (1989). Both topped the charts and sold nearly 50 million copies. This success created momentum, helping them gain worldwide fame. However, Jon Bon Jovi said that he still feels like there is something missing in life.
“I had number one albums. Opening the hotel room door, pictures of us everywhere. But I wanted to do something,” Jon Bon Jovi said on VH1.

In 1989, Jon Bon Jovi, then 27 years old, decided to take advantage of a day off between a tour in New Jersey to fly to Las Vegas (USA). He secretly married Dorothea Hurley. They didn’t even prepare a wedding ring. The band members, managers, security team… were all unaware of Jon’s decision
Jon later recounted on VH1 that relatives and managers were worried about the band’s reputation. After all, he is the lead singer of one of the most famous bands. His image is admired by many female fans. A wedding can ruin everything.
“We did it for ourselves. Because of this decision, I received a lot of pressure from the band, my parents, my manager. Everyone was angry. After a few days, I decided I shouldn’t worry about what other people think. everyone else,” Jon recalls.
Dorothea Hurley rarely attends events with her husband, she prefers a normal life with concerns for her four children. She was also never jealous of Jon when he was loved by so many women. Jon Bon Jovi said that he understood his wife’s sacrifices and would never betray her.
“I was right from the beginning. She’s the most wonderful person and I adore Dorothea,” Jon confessed his love for his wife to People.

In an interview, Jon Bon Jovi affirmed that he never used drugs or drank too much alcohol, leading to loss of control. That’s something rare in a rock star. Jon said that he was determined with his choice because he already had a place called “home” and could not imagine what he would be without his family. But Jon allowed himself to be comfortable in the world of Rock and Roll.
In recent years, Jon Bon Jovi has remained busy with music and tours, but he tries to spend time with his family whenever possible. When his eldest daughter – Stephanie Rose – overdosed on heroin a few years ago, Jon Bon Jovi was shocked. He doesn’t want to see any of his other children become victims of drugs.
Dorothea Hurley still chooses to stand behind Jon Bon Jovi, rarely going to the press to talk about her husband. She is always next to leader Bon Jovi, supporting and sharing his career.
