Taylor Swift makes music history as IFPI’s Biggest-Selling Global Recording Artist of the Year for the fifth time

Taylor also topped the Global Albums Chart, Global Vinyl Albums Chart, Global Streaming Albums Chart and Global Album Sales Chart with her 2024 release THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT

February 18, 2025 – Taylor Swift has been named Global Recording Artist of the Year 2024 by the IFPI, the organisation representing the global music industry.

This is the fifth time Swift has won the award – and the third year in a row. In a record-breaking year on all fronts for the pop superstar, 2024 also saw her scoop four other major IFPI awards. Including the Global Albums Chart, Global Vinyl Albums Chart, Global Streaming Albums Chart and Global Album Sales Chart thanks to the tremendous success of her eleventh studio album, THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT, released in April 2024.

Taylor Swift’s record-breaking tour | The Eras has engaged fans through her entire music catalog on streaming platforms worldwide.

This phenomenon is evidenced by the resurgence of her previous albums 1989 (Taylor’s Version) (2023), Midnights (2022), Folklore (2020), Evermore (2020) and Lover (2019), all of which have charted in the Top 20 of the IFPI Global Vinyl Albums Chart 2024 – a testament to Taylor’s fan base and the enduring popularity of her catalogue to date.

This is the 12th year of the IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year award, with Taylor Swift having topped the chart more than any other artist in that time (this year’s win follows wins in 2014, 2019, 2022 and 2023).

Victoria Oakley, IFPI CEO, said: “We are incredibly proud to award Taylor Swift the IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year for the fifth time, as she continues to redefine the boundaries of global success.

“It’s been an incredible year for Taylor and it’s wonderful to see fans around the world connecting with her incredible catalogue of music.”

It was also a stellar year for breakthrough artists on the IFPI Global Chart. Zach Bryan and Sabrina Carpenter made their first appearances in the Top 10 of the Global Recording Artists Chart, while Noah Kahan, Benson Boone, Chappell Roan and Teddy Swims all made their debuts on the Global Streaming Albums Chart.

Elsewhere, several global album charts demonstrated the growing popularity of country music, with Morgan Wallen, Beyoncé, Post Malone and Zach Bryan making their debuts.

On the Global Album Sales Chart, which measures physical and download sales, K-Pop continued to dominate. Elsewhere in Asia, Chinese artist Zhou Shen himself reached #11 while Japanese artist Snow Man reached #17 with their album RAYS.

The Global Vinyl Albums Chart is a fascinating snapshot on the changing demographics of vinyl fans, continuing the trend towards new releases and front-line artists, predominantly female and featuring Billie Eilish’s HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess and Charli XCX’s BRAT.

About the IFPI Global Chart

The Global Recording Artist of the Year award is calculated based on an artist or group’s worldwide sales across streaming, download and physical formats during the calendar year and includes their entire body of work.

The IFPI Global Chart provides the most comprehensive picture of artist, album and track performance around the world. The chart records streams, downloads and physical formats in every country directly from participating labels, which are then converted using IFPI’s unique methodology into a single global chart figure. This methodology, developed in partnership with IFPI member labels, reflects global commercial success by combining the most comprehensive reporting of sales and streams with the country-level economics of each type of consumption.

IFPI will announce the results of the IFPI Global Singles Chart and the winner of the 2024 IFPI Global Singles Award later this week.
