Sydney Sweeney recently discussed the criticism she received for a marketing gimmick that saw a company selling a soap bar that was “infused” with her bathwater. The 27-year-old actress noted that it was “mainly the girls” who took issue with it.
Sweeney has certainly never been shy about using her status as a sex symbol to sell product, having worked with brands like American Eagle, Baskin-Robbins, Miu Miu, Armani Beauty, Baskin-Robbins, Miu Miu, Armani Beauty, and Dr. Squatch — the latter of which being the company that did the bathwater gimmick.
According to Sydney Sweeney, she keeps an eye on what her fans are saying about her and pointed out that it was “mainly the girls” who took issue with the bathwater marketing ploy.
“I think it’s important to have a finger on the pulse of what people are saying, because everything is a conversation with the audience… It was mainly the girls making comments about [the bathwater soap],” Sweeney told the Wall Street Journal.
Sweeney then took a subtle shot at the notion, suggesting that her fans were engaging in double-standards.
“…Which I thought was really interesting. They all loved the idea of Jacob Elordi’s bathwater.”
Sweeney was referring to the virals scene from the 2023 Saltburn that included a scene involving Elordi’s character’s bathwater. Elordi is also Sweeney’s co-star on the hit HBO series Euphoria, which recently began filming its third and final season.
Following the release of Americana last week — which bombed at the box office, earning just $500,000 in over 1,100 theaters during its debut weekend — Sweeney will next be seen starring in Eden, which hits theaters on Friday, August 22.
Eden, which was directed by acclaimed filmmaker Ron Howard, also stars Ana de Armas, Vanessa Kirby, Daniel Bruhl, and Jude Law. Later this year, she’ll also star alongside Amanda Seyfried in Paul Fieg’s big-screen adaptation of the best-selling thriller novel The Housemaid.
