Sir Brian May and Anita Dobson ‘taking each day as it comes’ after his stroke

Sir Brian May’s wife, Anita Dobson, has assured fans he is now ‘stable’ after suffering a stroke in September.

The Queen legend, 77, was rushed to hospital amid his medical emergency last year, later describing it as a ‘scary’ ordeal.

Sir Brian was then unable to use his left arm, a side effect that came ‘out of the blue’ as he suddenly struggled to play guitar.

Thankfully, he’s now in a stronger place, with his wife of almost 25 years, Anita, 75, by his side.

Sharing an update on her husband, the EastEnders actress told The Sun: ‘The start of the year has been up and down.

‘We both had the flu, but we took the kids to Lapland. 15 of them.’

Sir Brian has three grown-up children – Jimmy, Louisa, and Emily Ruth – from his first marriage to Chrissie Mullen, which ended in 1988.

Anita added of his condition: ‘Brian is stable now. Brian has never been happier since we moved.’

On swapping city life for a much slower pace, she said: ‘For me, it’s been a curveball, as I’m a London girl born and bred, so going to the countryside to a house that needs a lot of work was a bit of a shock.

‘To see what it has done to Brian… he loves it. He loves the birds and the animals. He feeds all the birds and the badgers, foxes and pheasants.’

Asked what their upcoming plans are, Anita said she and Sir Brian plan to travel to Switzerland.

However, the Doctor Who star and We Will Rock You hitmaker are mainly focusing on ‘chilling’ in their new rural abode.

‘It makes you realise that at any minute, it could be you,’ she stated, as the couple ‘takes each day as it comes’.

Her latest update comes after Anita described her other half’s stroke recovery thus far as ‘brilliant’.

Speaking in December at the TRIC Christmas Lunch, she expressed her hopes not to have ‘any more recurrences’.

‘He’s got the use of that arm, which was a bit of a challenge, back now.’

Sir Brian stopped playing instruments completely ‘until after he’d recovered quite a bit,’ but he is now back to serenading his loved ones with soothing piano music, as well as the strings.

Insisting that the skill ‘very quickly came back,’ Anita did echo her husband’s anxieties that it was a ‘scary’ time.

The music icon’s stroke happened while he was already healing from a ripped muscle and trapped nerve that occurred when he injured himself while gardening as he suffered a heart attack in 2020.

Sir Brian first met his wife Anita in 1986 at a film premiere. They tied the knot on November 18, 2000.
