10 Deeply Romantic Rock + Metal Lyrics
Let the lyrics seduce you.

HIM, Your Sweet 666
Johnny Perilla, Loudwire / BMG
HIM, “Your Sweet 666”
The Lyric:
I’m longing for your touch and I welcome your sweet six six six in my heart
In my heart
In my heart
In my heart
Why It’s So Romantic:
I’m not entirely sure if this is a love song or a breakup song, or a little bit of column A and a little bit of column B, but I am absolutely sure that if you look into the eyes of anyone at all while this song is playing, you will instantly fall in love with them. I mean, seriously. Play this through your phone speakers while you purchase a pack of gum at 7-11 and see what happens between you and the person behind the register.
I wasn’t entirely sure how I felt about HIM. I rolled my eyes at the “heartagram” symbol and called it cheesy, but, deep down inside, I also found it painfully adorable.
At some point I gave in, and listened to the entirety of the Razorblade Romance album and I found myself listening to this song on repeat… again and again, with a different fantasy ensuing in my brain involving a different pale, skinny male (and then… also female!) topless with a ton of eyeliner, dancing with me in a forest in Finland.
Love or hate this band, this is a disgustingly romantic song that can satisfy the ears and the hearts of almost anyone. It’s goth, it’s pop, it’s metal, it’s rock… and it just feels so damn good.

Killswitch Engage, I Am Broken Too

Killswitch Engage, “I Am Broken Too”
The Lyric:
And if you needed proof
I’d reopen my wounds (my wounds)
In all the right places for you
I can see the truth ’cause I am broken too
I am broken too
Broken just like you
Why It’s So Romantic:
It wouldn’t be appropriate to make a list of romantic heavy songs without including something that poetically summarizes the beauty in the most utterly toxic relationship. You know the type: full of passion even if it’s clear you can’t get along and definitely aren’t meant to be together.
We all know these relationships are so destructive and so magical at the same time. If you’re in one of these very relationships right now… well, you should probably end it. But odds are you won’t. And if you do, chances are… you’re not going to end it before Valentine’s day, so you may as well put on the perfect song and bask inside of the best and worst decisions you ever made… together.

Ozzy Osbourne, I Just Want You

Ozzy Osbourne, “I Just Want You”
The Lyric:
There are no indisputable truths
And there ain’t no fountain of youth
Each night when the day is through,
I don’t ask much
I just want you
I just want you
Why It’s So Romantic:
How could we make a list of romantic metal songs without including a love ballad by Ozzy? He might hold the record for being in possibly the most functional and longest running marriage in heavy metal, or possibly Hollywood in general.
Yeah, yeah… they’ve certainly had their share of issues… but let’s not focus on those in this article about romance. Regardless, Sharon and Ozzy are truly #Goals and you can just imagine him singing this song directly to her as he snacks on a bat at their dining room table.
It’s a dark and melodic ballad, showing us the softer side of Ozzy. Singing a bunch of nonsensical lyrics that more or less say that nothing is forever except you. This is a song that speaks to the hearts of couples who fell in love 20+ years ago doing drugs off each other’s unmentionables in a bar bathroom somewhere, and now fight over what color curtains to hang in the living room.

Lamb of God, Walk With Me In Hell
Ethan Miller, Getty Images / Epic/Prosthetic
Lamb of God, “Walk With Me In Hell”
The Lyric:
Take hold of my hand
For you are no longer alone
Walk with me in Hell
Why It’s So Romantic:
The lyrics to this song are pretty vague, and I am not entirely sure if it was intended to be romantic… but, believe it or not, I am a hopeless romantic so I’m going to interpret it that way!
It’s most definitely the perfect song for a heavy metal couple having a shotgun wedding to walk down the aisle to. It’s not a ballad, it’s not slow or soft, and there’s nothing melodic to sing along to. It’s good old-fashioned punch-you-in-the-face headbanging metal with lyrics about death, destruction, darkness… and, you know… holding hands. It doesn’t get more metal, and more romantic than that.

Iron Maiden, When the Wild Wind Blows
PYMCA, Universal Images Group/Getty Images / EMI
Iron Maiden, “When the Wild Wind Blows”
The Lyric:
When they found them had their
Arms wrapped around each other
Their tins of poison laying
nearby their clothes
The day they both mistook an
earthquake for the fall out
Just another when the
wild wind blows…
Why It’s So Romantic:
This song is about a couple preparing to spend the end of the world together. Come to think of it, the lyrics of this song are almost identical to the plot of the recent Netflix movie, Don’t Look Up. And I loved that movie! And I also love this song.
The lyrics are written like a novel, and not like typical lyrics. It’s hard to even compare this one to the other songs on this list with repetitive choruses mixed with a bunch of vague phrases. This isn’t just a love song, it’s a love story with more depth and more romance than The Notebook.
It’s the perfect song for people who are very much in love, but also very much preparing for the zombie apocalypse at the same time.

Alice Cooper, Poison
YouTube: R. Albert / Epic
Alice Cooper, “Poison”
The Lyric:
I wanna love you but I better not touch (don’t touch)
I wanna hold you, but my senses tell me to stop
I wanna kiss you but I want it too much (too much)
I wanna taste you but your lips are venomous poison
You’re poison, running through my veins
You’re poison
Why It’s So Romantic:
I personally find this song to be the greatest song to dance to when you’re onstage at a strip club. Don’t tell anyone, but aside from writing titillating articles for Loudwire, I do other things… Sometimes, with little to no clothing on.
The lyrics are simple, but classic.
They describe that feeling you feel when you’re in a relationship with someone and you can’t even call it a relationship yet and you sit there and over analyze every single interaction you’ve shared and wonder if they feel the same way about you… When you actually physically feel addicted to someone and you might just die if you don’t have them again…
Okay, that was a bit dramatic, but a little bit of drama is fine when you’re talking about Alice Cooper. He’s almost 80 years old [editor’s note: he was born on Feb. 4, 1948] and still wears a full face of makeup.
The way the song starts slow and builds up to one of the most perfect choruses of any song of all time. It just feels so damn good every time you hear it. This song brings out my inner succubus, and makes me want to steal your soul in the most romantic way possible.

Skid Row, I Remember You
Paul Natkin, WireImage/Getty Images
Skid Row, “I Remember You”
The Lyric:
Woke up to the sound of pouring rain
Washed away a dream of you
But nothing else could ever take you away
‘Cause you’ll always be my dream come true
Oh my darling, I love you
Why It’s So Romantic:
Sebastian Bach truly had the voice of an angel and could sing anything and it would sound utterly romantic. With his glowing locks, his chiseled face and his operatic voice, he was like the heavy metal Fabio.
The lyrics are written like a love poem by a 6th grader, but it doesn’t matter. Sebastian sings these simple words so beautifully and this always was, and always will be, an absolutely incredible and powerful song. My heart flutters every time I hear it.
The vocals go back and forth from singing to screaming, as he goes from remembering to yearning for his lost love, and the whole experience feels like a thrilling emotional rollercoaster. In addition to his voice, the guitar solo is the perfect riff to play out of a speaker as you stand outside the window of a lover you’re trying to win back or win over.
Skid Row is often overlooked when reminiscing about hair metal, but don‘t worry Sebastian… I remember you!

Trivium
Kathy Flynn, WickedGoddessPhotography.com / Roadrunner
Trivium, “This World Can’t Tear Us Apart”
The Lyrics:
All the pain in this world won’t stop us now
For we have each other
All the hate in this world can’t tear us apart
This love is forever
Why It’s So Romantic:
As seen on this list, it’s quite common when writing songs about love to also include feelings of pain, loss, something unrequited, something dangerous or something toxic and obsessive. That’s where good art comes from, right?
Well, this song describes a kind of love that is actually good for you. It’s crazy, right? A love that helps you get through the pain of the rest of the world, as opposed to a love that is causing you all the pain in the world.
I’m going to go out on a limb here, and I hope I don’t ruin anyone’s reputation, but every time I listen to Trivium I think, “This guy sounds like… a really nice guy?” It’s actually rather refreshing.
Aside from that, this song has some incredible dual harmonies, along with some blast beats and breakdowns. It’s catchy, it’s sincere, and it gives you the exact warm metal fuzzies you’ll want to feel with the right person on Valentine’s day.

Ghost, Life Eternal
Julia Reinhart, Getty Images / Loma Vista
Ghost, “Life Eternal”
The Lyric:
Can you hear me say your name forever?
Can you see me longing for you forever, forever?
Would you let me touch your soul forever?
Can you feel me longing for you forever and ever?
Why It’s So Romantic:
This is just an absolutely beautiful song, and it’s perfectly suited to play at your wedding… and at your funeral.
The sound of the piano, the church bells, the orchestral chorus and all the other complicated and magical layers of musicianship you hear in here is just something very rare, and indescribable… but it’s my assignment to describe romantic heavy metal songs, so I’m doing my very best!
Every time Papa Emeritus chants the word “forever” in the song (which is repeated quite a few times) it just hits you differently every time. It’s a cliche word you’ve heard a million times in music, and in general, but, here, it’s something special. This song, and this band in general, has a certain soul that fills a void in our soulless heavy metal hearts.

Type O Negative, Love You to Death
Paul Bergen/Redferns, Getty Images / Roadrunner
Type O Negative, “Love You to Death”
The Lyric:
Black lipstick stains her glass of red wine
I am your servant, may I light your cigarette?
Those lips smooth, yeah I can feel what you’re saying, praying
They say the beast inside of me’s gonna get ya, get ya, get…
Why It’s So Romantic:
It’s just a fact that this is the most romantic song ever written.
The words in all five of the 50 Shades of Gray books combined can not do the things to me that just the mere opening verse of this song does.
I’m not sure what I can really say here that hasn’t already been said about this song, so how about you just stop reading this article right now, go cover your room in rose petals and candles, put “Love You to Death” on the highest volume you possibly can and have a happy and heavy Valentine’s Day?
