Real Madrid are considering selling Rodrygo in the summer of 2025 to rebuild the squad, amid pressure from competition in attack and the need to increase the budget to recruit new defenders and midfielders.

Rodrygo’s future at Real Madrid is in question, despite being one of the factors that contributed greatly to the “White Vultures” winning the Champions League last season.
At the age of 24, the Brazilian player still had a not-so-bad 2024/25 season in terms of statistics with 13 goals and 10 assists after 50 matches in all competitions. However, those numbers do not seem to be enough to help him maintain his position in the current Real superstar squad.
The main reason why Rodrygo could leave the Bernabéu is the fierce competition in attack. The appearance of Kylian Mbappe – who scored 40 goals and had 4 assists in his first season – has completely disrupted the team’s attacking structure.

According to Marca, this is the reason why the future of the Samba player will depend on the decision of the new coach, expected to be Xabi Alonso.
Arsenal and Liverpool chasing Rodrygo
Despite previously denying reports that he is “locked up at home thinking about his future”, Rodrygo has made no clear commitment to staying. He is believed to have turned down a huge offer from Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal in January, indicating his desire to continue playing at the top level in Europe.
Of the clubs keeping a close eye on him, Liverpool are the most prominent with long-term interest from the club’s board, while Arsenal are also lacking an attacking player with consistent goalscoring ability.
A move away from the Bernabeu may be a setback for his reputation, but it could be a step forward for his career if Rodrygo finds the right club to shine. He is still young, talented and hungry to prove himself.
After seasons serving the royal team, the summer of 2025 could be the ripe time for Rodrygo to seek a central role in a new football project – where he is not in the shadow of other superstars.
