John Legend has won 12 Grammy Awards, but this is his first nomination in the Children’s category.

According to Billboard, the famous singer is one of the 2025 Grammy nominees for Best Children’s Album with “My Favorite Dream.”

“My Favorite Dream holds a very special place in my heart. This is my first children’s album, inspired by the heart of our family. Working with the incredible talent of Sufjan Stevens has made this dream come true in ways I never could have imagined,” John Legend shared on Instagram. He also thanked the Grammy Awards organizers for recognizing his hard work and welcoming the newcomer to the world of children’s music. “These nominations aren’t just for me and my family—they’re for everyone who believes in the magic of music, family, unity, and love,” the singer said.

Previously, in an interview with Vogue, John Legend stated that My Favorite Dream was an album focused on lullabies and children’s music. For the singer, the project represents an opportunity to put his own stamp on a genre that doesn’t really receive much attention these days. He also emphasized that the children’s album is set with the same standard of musical excellence and sound quality that he has always applied to all his other albums.

The idea for John Legend’s children’s album came when he shared a short video on Instagram of himself playing a song on the piano with his child’s toy. The video excited fans, and they want John Legend to make more children’s songs.

“I didn’t want to just sing existing songs but create something new, because I’m a musician and I love writing songs. So I took it as a challenge to write new lullabies. I sat at the piano and started making a list of topics I wanted to talk about, all the things I say to my children, messages to inspire them, comfort them, encourage them, remind them… Those were the starting ideas for the songs” – John Legend said.

More than a musical product, My Favorite Dream is a special memory for John Legend with his family members. His wife and two children contributed their voices to the songs. The album cover is a picture of the singer himself when he was a child taken by a relative.

Also nominated for the 2025 Grammy in the Children’s Music category with John Legend are Divinity Roxx, Lucky Diaz, Lucy Kalantari and Rock for Children.

John Legend is known as one of the few artists who own all four of the most prestigious awards in the United States, abbreviated as EGOT, including: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. The male artist once brought the hit song All of Me to Vietnam to perform at the award ceremony in 2022.
