An impressive new mural celebrating Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has been unveiled in Anfield. The Dutchman has been commemorated on Coningsby Road, just off Anfield Road and opposite the iconic Robbie Fowler tribute.

The piece features Virgil van Dijk in front of a deep red backdrop, wearing a champions 24/25 shirt, looking upwards in his home kit complete with the golden Premier League badge and captain armband after winning his second league title with the Reds.

Painted in white is a message that is simple but emotive. It reads: “His story… It was always Liverpool.”

It is the latest addition to the city’s football landscape, and supporters have already gathered to take photos of the artwork.

The mural is the latest work of Liverpool-firm MurWalls, the same company who were responsible for other artwork around the city including the mural dedicated to Jamie Carragher in Bootle.

Having made over 300 appearances for Liverpool FC, van Dijk has been a major catalyst behind the club’s most recent triumph. The season has been a dream for Arne Slot, who led the club to Premier League glory in his debut campaign.

Liverpool FC fans are still buzzing after the title win, with celebrations expected in Anfield on Sunday ahead of the final game.

The celebrations will continue through to Monday as hundreds of thousands of Liverpool fans are expected to line the streets as the club celebrates its 20th English league title with an open-top bus parade through the city.
