Amid the multiple critiques that President Donald Trump has levelled against Bruce Springsteen in recent days, Neil Young has spoken up saying that he stands beside the heartland rocker’s rights to free speech.
This began when ‘The Boss’ voiced his disapproval of Trump’s recent practices during a show in Manchester. Subsequently, Trump launched a vicious tirade on social media against Springsteen, which contained a warning saying that the rock and roll legend should keep his mouth shut regarding political matters while in foreign territory.

As many fans and musicians flock to Springsteen’s corner, Young has penned an open letter to Trump for his actions against Springsteen, saying in the Neil Young Archives, “Bruce and thousands of musicians think you are ruining America. You worry about that instead of the dyin’ kids in Gaza. That’s your problem. I am not scared of you. Neither are the rest of us.”
Young also went on to say that Trump’s statements have nothing to do with the greater problems in the world, encouraging him to “STOP THINKING ABOUT WHAT ROCKERS ARE SAYING. Think about saving America from the mess you made.”
Nevertheless, Trump has sought to escalate the tension between him and Springsteen. After promising to launch an investigation into the heartland rock legend, Springsteen continued to speak his mind, chastising Trump for “persecuting people for their right to free speech and voicing their dissent” and saying that his recent actions are “too important to ignore”.
Young is far from the first person who has come to Springsteen’s side during this time. Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder has also voiced his support for ‘The Boss’, saying that the Trump administration “didn’t debate about any one of those issues. All that we heard were personal attacks and threats that nobody else should try to use their microphones or voice in public or they’ll be shut down.”
This is also not the first time that Young has used his right to free speech to criticise the US government. After immortalising the brutal murders that happened in Kent State in the song ‘Ohio’, Young also came under fire with the song ‘Let’s Impeach the President’, which went against the practices of President George W Bush.
