Neal Schon has set the Journey fan community abuzz after sharing a mysterious “Journey Beyond” logo on his social media, hinting at a possible new musical chapter. The post, first reported by users on X (formerly Twitter), featured a brief but intriguing caption:

“Into the future.”

A closer look reveals that this is more than just a social media tease. Back in April, Schon filed an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to secure the rights to the “Journey Beyond” name.

“The JOURNEY BEYOND™ mark is intended to cover the categories of musical sound recordings; downloadable musical sound recordings; series of musical sound recordings; compact discs featuring music; downloadable music files; downloadable MP3 files and MP3 recordings featuring music; musical video recordings; and pre-recorded CDs, video tapes, laser disks and DVDs featuring music.”

Potential New Band or Musical Project

The scope of the trademark suggests that Schon may be preparing for a substantial musical venture — possibly an offshoot project distinct from Journey but still tied to its legacy. Fans have speculated this could mean new albums, live recordings, or even a touring act under the Journey Beyond name.

 

The move comes amid ongoing tensions within Journey’s current lineup, as well as longstanding disputes over the band’s intellectual property rights.

As Ultimate Classic Rock reports, Schon’s trademark application is still awaiting review by an examining attorney, meaning it has yet to be granted. Still, the filing is a clear step toward legally protecting the brand before any official launch.

Notably, the application follows recent legal updates in the Journey world. Former frontman Steve Perry recently dropped a lawsuit against Schon and Jonathan Cain concerning the band’s trademarks.
