Singer Katy Perry has been brutally mocked after she spoke to the media about the impacts of her Blue Origin space trip on Monday – as viewers branded her emotional speech as ‘tone deaf’ and ’embarrassing.’
On Monday morning, Perry, 40, joined six noteworthy women, including Jeff Bezos‘ fiancé Lauren Sanchez, 55, on a nail-biting 11-minute suborbital flight during which the crew could be heard screaming on a live broadcast.
The women crossed the Karman Line, often used as the boundary of space, and were treated to roughly three minutes of weightlessness before they headed back down to the ground.
The Amazon tycoon is the one behind the program, which hopes to send more people into space and make it more accessible in the future.
The commercial spacecraft carried Perry and Sanchez as well as CBS co-host Gayle King, 70, filmmaker Kieranne Flynn, 57, and NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, 38, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyne, 33, on the brief, zero gravity joyride.
But Perry’s comments after returning to Earth have now sparked immense criticism from some social media users.
‘I hope they can see the unity that we modeled and replicate that and understand that we weren’t just taking up space, we were making space for the future,’ Perry said during an interview with Good Morning America, after she was asked how their mission can ‘affect change.’
‘And for me, like Gayle [King] said, this wasn’t a ride, it wasn’t a destination, it was a journey, and it was a supernatural one, and my journey has always been about love and belonging,’ the Firework hitmaker continued.

‘I think that we have all felt that sometimes we weren’t worthy or we didn’t belong in certain ways, no matter all the accolades, no matter all the studying, no matter anything, and I think today we all said it, like, we belong here. This is where we belong, and we feel very sure of that.’
Fans quickly took to the comment section to share their thoughts after the interview was clipped and put on GMA’s TikTok account, and viewers were not amused.
‘They really think they’ve done something great for humanity. The ego’s are insane,’ one person wrote.
Another agreed, ‘People can’t afford their rent or even groceries, but sure Katy Perry in space will help.’
‘Barbie outfits. The world is on fire. Read the room,’ someone else typed.
A user chimed in, ‘This has the exact same tone as in Bridesmaids where Kristen Wiig’s character is speaking in Spanish. Lol.’
‘What?? What is she talking about?! Did they think they were going into battle or they were part of some mission to save lives??’ another raged.
‘Katy Perry sounds like a yoga instructor who operates via Groupon,’ someone quipped.

Perry was also slammed over her ‘try-hard’ antics after landing.
As she emerged from the ship, the Firework songstress stopped and held a daisy up to the sky for a couple seconds before she kissed it – in honor of her daughter.
She then flipped her hair with a dramatic swish before she headed down the ladder. Upon reaching the bottom, she got down on her hands and knees and kissed the ground dramatically.
And social media users were quick to bash Katy’s actions.
‘Oh dramatic. You were there for 20 seconds miss girl,’ one user wrote on X, formerly Twitter, in response to a clip of Katy getting off the ship.
‘Her kissing the ground as if she wasn’t gone for two seconds,’ added another, alongside some laughing emojis.
‘Girl get the f**k up,’ someone else quipped, while a fourth person chimed in, ‘It was only a 10-minute flight PLEASE.’
‘This b***h is so f**king dramatic,’ scathed someone else.
A sixth tweet read, ‘Drama queen,’ while a seventh said, ‘Seriously? This is so lame. Nothing but a photo op and a mockery of real space, travel, and actual astronauts.’
The women’s quick trip to space was not exactly well-received, with a slew of stars publicly slamming it.
Model Emily Ratajkowski took to her social media to slam the mission, calling it ‘beyond parody.’
Olivia Wilde, Olivia Munn, and Amy Schumer were amongst the other famous faces to bash it.
