Karmelo Anthony’s family is being criticized online for allegedly spending more than half a million dollars in donations and asking for another $1.4 million.
The teenager was charged with first-degree murder for the murder of Austin Metcalf earlier this year, and his family raised more than $500,000 through GiveSendGo.
Despite receiving that money, they recently requested a public defender, a clear hint that they can’t afford one for trial.

Of course, this wasn’t received well, at least on social media.
“This is the first time I’ve ever felt bad for Karmelo. Yes, he killed a child. But his family raised money from the public’s bad feelings to provide a great legal defense, then kept it all for themselves. What an evil family,” one user wrote.
“The family knew he was guilty and he was going to go far so they were just trying to get as much money as possible,” said another.
“They made it easy 😂. Now they have a new house and a new car,” claimed another.

The Anthony family is asking for $1.4 million so they can find a safe place to relocate after threats from d3ath, as well as legal fees, security equipment, counseling, legal counsel and a team of investigators.
Karmelo Anthony’s mother, Kaya Hayes, has previously denied using the donations to buy a new house and car. It is also said that the family is not a financially strapped family and has always lived in a gated, upscale community.
