Travis Kelce Admits He’s Had A ‘Taxing’ Year Amidst ‘Tough’ Time With Taylor Swift
Last week, we reported that the Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was going through a “tough” time with his pop star girlfriend Taylor Swift. Now, Kelce is admitting that the past year has been “taxing” for him.
That’s probably a mild way of describing being the best tight end in the NFL while also dating the biggest pop star on the planet!

Kelce’s ‘Taxing’ Year
“Last year was pretty taxing on my body,” Kelce told ESPN after his team finished a training camp practice at Missouri Western State University on Saturday. “I’ve had more snaps than a lot of guys if not everybody in the NFL over the past five, six years, and I’m very prideful of that, but I know it has taken a toll on my body.”
“So it’s just making sure that my body’s getting that rest and that ability to train harder and be able to withstand an entire 17-to-20-game season,” he added.
Kelce will be turning 35 in October, and he’s been playing in the NFL since 2013. Despite this, Kelce has no plans to take a rest day after his first week of training camp for the season.
‘This Is My Sanctuary’
“This is my sanctuary,” Kelce explained. “St. Joe, Year 12. That means I’ve spent just about an entire year of my life up here in the dorms. Everybody may say that is pretty grueling, but I enjoy it. There’s something about this place to get you ready every single year, and I’m not going to lie, I got pretty excited as the time started counting down to get out here and get this thing rolling.”
Kelce concluded by saying that he hasn’t changed the way he trains much since his early career. Which is pretty incredible considering his age and the toll playing tight end takes on the body.
“Over every single season you find ways to get better at what works for you, [eliminate] what doesn’t, and you just want to amp it up every single year so that you keep finding ways to kind of climb that staircase of success,” he said. “I would say I’m doing some things differently but nothing really in the grand scheme of things. Just putting my nose to the grinder.”
Kelce’s ‘Tough’ Time With Swift
Kelce spent much of his off season traveling the world with Swift, 34, as she continues her hugely successful Eras Tour. Just before training camp, he was in Europe watching her perform. Having to leave her behind was reportedly “tough” for him.
“Travis’ last few concerts were bittersweet,” one insider told People Magazine. “They knew their time together like this was coming to an end and he made sure to spend every minute he could with Taylor.”
Over the coming months, it will be more difficult for Kelce and Swift to see each other, given their respective grueling schedules.
“It’s definitely tough to be apart but they do everything they can to make it work and show up for each other,” the source continued. “They’re so in love and very, very happy together. All their friends and family can see it.”
Kelce may be going through a “tough” time with Swift after a “taxing” year, but it’s clear that he still has his eye on the prize when it comes to his NFL career. It will certainly be interesting to see how this season goes for Kelce and the Chiefs!
