Jon Bon Jovi claims: ‘Elvis Presley lost everything but one thing before he died’

Jon Bon Jovi has opened up about his love for Elvis Presley in a new four-part Disney+ documentary, Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story.

In the second episode, the 62-year-old singer is interviewed at home while recovering from vocal cord surgery, reflecting on his own death and career.

“I watched the Elvis movie. I LOVED the Elvis movie,” the singer said.

“I realised I had forgotten a lot of things, but I was very aware that my career had been learned from Elvis.

“And how many things in that movie directly impacted my life.”

Bon Jovi continued: “Lisa Marie came to see me record Young Guns. She was a kid. Priscilla called me to do something after he died, but I didn’t do it.

“We met [Elvis’ manager] the Colonel. The Colonel said to [our manager] Doc McGhee, ‘How did you make money off those five guys, Bon Jovis?’ I think that’s one of the greatest quotes ever.

“And then you forget how great [Elvis] was. And he was young. He was 42 when he died, but he could still sing right up to the end. He never lost his voice. Lost everything else, except his voice.”

Bon Jovi, who is still recovering his voice but hopes to tour again, added: “I’d rather be the one putting the pieces together than him burning out at 40 and calling it quits. I’ve lived a lot of lives between 40 and 60 and they’ve all been incredible.”
