Tour and Guests
Matthew McConaughey is launching a book tour in September to promote Poems & Prayers. He will travel to several cities and bring along well-known musicians. On September 16 at King’s Theatre in Brooklyn, he will be joined by Jon Bon Jovi. On September 20 at the Saban Theater in Los Angeles, John Mayer will appear with him.
The tour, known as the Poems & Prayers Revival Tour, blends music, spoken word, and heartfelt dialogue. The event will feature “intimate, spontaneous and honest conversation” between McConaughey and his guest, designed to “put a mirror to our souls to see if we recognize each other again.”
More Fellow Travelers
Matthew’s other guests include Zach Bryan, Jon Batiste, and Lukas Nelson. Poems & Prayers, due on September 16, is called “an inspiring, faith-filled, and often hilarious collection of personal poetry and prayers about navigating the rodeo of life and chasing down the original dream, belief.”
This tour covers five cities: Brooklyn, Nashville, Tulsa, Los Angeles, and Austin, running from September 16 to 21.
The Book’s Message
In announcing the tour, McConaughey said, “Poems & Prayers is more than a book. It’s a memory — a place where we can rediscover what we’ve lost, celebrate what remains and maybe even leave behind what no longer serves us.”
The book mixes poetry, prayers, and prose, drawing on Old Testament passages, personal reflections, and humor. McConaughey said, “I’ve always relied on logic to make sense of myself and the world. A prescriptionist at heart, I’ve always looked to reason to find the rhyme, the practical to get to the mystical, the choreography to find the dance, the proof to get to the truth and reality to get to the dream. I’ve been finding that tougher to do lately. It’s more than hard to know what to believe in; it’s hard to believe. But I don’t want to quit believing, and I don’t want to stop believing in humanity — you, myself our potential”
