The singer and EGOT winner, 46, shared a series of photos on his Instagram on Thursday, July 17, as he rounded up his time spent with 7-year-old son Miles at DYF, a diabetes family camp. In the sweet pictures, Legend can be seen smiling with Miles in front of huge trees, hiking in the forest and relaxing together in their cabin.
“I took Miles on a boys’ trip to a wonderful diabetes family camp @dyf_t1d. Loved having one-on-one time with him at Yosemite,” Legend wrote in his caption. “And it was so cool for him to be around a bunch of kids his age and counselors with diabetes. I learned a lot and I’m so grateful to everyone involved.”
Last July, Teigen announced that Miles had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, sharing the news on her Instagram in a lengthy statement.
“A lot of you noticed something a little special about a photo I posted a few days ago — Luna, Miles and I celebrating Simone and team USA,” the mom of four began.
“Miles had his arm up, and soooo many of you reached out to say the most beautiful and incredible words I have ever witnessed on this platform. You noticed his type-1 diabetes monitor and extended so much love and encouragement in every way possible. I was, and am, so blown away by the kindness of this community, already.”
She went on to describe that Miles had been sick in the hospital with shigella, and a doctor noticed something was off with his blood tests.
“I’ve learned since then that this is how so many young children end up being diagnosed with type-1 — going to the hospital for something completely different,” she said.
“After more testing, we learned he is in the ‘honeymoon period’ of a lifetime of T1. Last night we gave him his first shot of insulin and here we go! A different, new world for us and we are certainly learning so much on the fly.”

That September, Legend spoke with PEOPLE and shared that their son’s diagnosis had made them even “stronger” as a family.
“My personality is one where I’m very optimistic and I’m very practical,” Legend said. “As soon as I learned that he had this I knew it was going to be life-changing for him and for us, but I’m also like, ‘We can do this.’ We’ve got great advice and lots of people offering support to help us learn.”
“This speaks to us feeling like a team,” he said of Teigen, “and knowing we can do this together. It just makes us stronger.”
As for how Miles was doing at the time, Legend said he’s “early in his diagnosis, and when you’re early, your insulin is still doing some of the work that it needs to do.”
“But as the disease progresses, it’s going to get to a point where we really need to monitor everything, count carbs, give him insulin beforehand. We just have to be more aware,” the dad of four added.
