Jennifer Aniston is set to star in the Apple TV+ series “I’m Glad My Mom Died,” inspired by “iCarly” star Jennette McCurdy’s memoir. McCurdy is set as co-writer and co-showrunner. Apple has given the show a 10-episode order.
Jennifer Aniston is set to star in a series inspired by Jennette McCurdy’s memoir “I’m Glad My Mom Died” at Apple TV+, Variety has learned.
Apple has given the show a 10-episode order. The official logline for the series states that it is a “heartbreaking and hilarious recounting of Jennette McCurdy’s struggles as a former child actor while dealing with her overbearing, domineering mother (Aniston). The dramedy will center on the the codependent relationship between an 18-year-old actress in a hit kid’s show, and her narcissistic mother who relishes in her identity as ‘a starlet’s mother.’”
McCurdy previously starred in shows like “iCarly” at Nickelodeon and made appearances in numerous other TV series and films. She published “I’m Glad My Mom Died” in 2022 with Simon & Shuster, with the book quickly topping the New York Times best seller list and remaining on the list for over a year.
McCurdy and Ari Katcher (“Ramy,” “Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show”) will write, executive produce, and showrun the series. Aniston will executive produce in addition to starring via Echo Films. Sharon Horgan and Stacy Greenberg executive produce for Merman along with Dani Gorin, Tom Ackerley and Josey McNamara for LuckyChap, Jerrod Carmichael and Erica Kay. Apple Studios will produce.
The role expands Aniston’s relationship with Apple TV+, as she also currently stars in and executive produces the streamer’s popular drama “The Morning Show,” which is launching its fourth season in September. Her work on the show has earned her two acting Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
This also marks the latest collaboration between Apple and Horgan. Horgan previously developed the series “Bad Sisters” at Apple, with the second season airing in late 2024.
McCurdy is repped by CAA, Jill Fritzo PR, and Hansen, Jacobson. Aniston is repped by CAA, Lighthouse Management & Media, and Hansen Jacobson. Horgan is repped by United Agents in the UK and WME in the US, and Nelson Davis. LuckyChap is repped by Entertainment 360, CAA, Narrative and attorney Jeff Bernstein. Katcher is repped by WME, Entertainment 360, and Ziffren Brittenham. Carmichael is repped by WME, Entertainment 360, and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole.
