In addition to making efforts to earn money for his family and taking good care of his children, Steve Harvey – America’s “king of comedy” – also teaches his children many valuable lessons about life.
Known as a multi-talented American media artist thanks to his ability to act as a comedian, write books and especially as the MC of many famous TV shows such as Family Feud and Little Big Shots, Steve Harvey is also a great father of seven children. In addition to making efforts to earn money for his family and taking good care of his children, Steve Harvey also teaches his children many valuable lessons about life.
Listen to Steve Harvey’s children share about their great father.
1. No distinction between biological children and stepchildren
Steve Harvey is the father of seven children, four of whom are his children with two of his previous wives and the remaining three are his wife Marjorie’s children with her previous husband. With such a family, Harvey loved and cared for all his children without distinguishing between his biological children and his stepchildren.

Steve Harvey’s Family.
On Good Morning America, the famous father Harvey shared: “The first thing we do is not use the term ‘stepchild’. I never use the term ‘stepdaughter’ to refer to my youngest daughter. She is my daughter. I don’t want them to feel isolated when I introduce them.”
Harvey’s love for his three children: Morgan, Jason and Lori is also known through the memories they shared directly in the latest episode of Little Big Shots to celebrate Harvey’s birthday. Morgan said: “My favorite moment was definitely my wedding last year. Dad walking me down the aisle and that special moment of the father-daughter dance. I always look back on that moment because when I was little, I never thought it would be the special occasion I was looking forward to. But having you come into my life and become my dad made it so special. It became a moment that I will always cherish and it made our father-daughter bond even stronger.”

The image of Harvey dancing with his daughter on their wedding day will forever be Morgan’s greatest memory.
Jason will always be grateful to Harvey for agreeing to give it to his cousin. “My dad did what he could, but he wasn’t there,” Jason said. “And then you stepped in and gave me that wonderful thing.”
2. Help your kids connect with each other and listen to them

Despite the difficulties, Harvey’s children were able to adapt to their new family with his help.
Also on Good Morning America, he shared his method of helping his children adapt to changes in their family roles. Harvey explained that his family had established a system called “responsible companion”: “With the two oldest children, we gave them the responsibility of building a bond between the children. With this method, no child felt younger than the two older twins.
Not only that, Harvey also gave useful advice to help his children adapt to the new family rules. His children had to get used to the new rules as quickly as possible and “in the end, everyone had to compromise because only then would everyone in the family be comfortable. When they came to live with our family, this was the rule that the whole family had to follow.”
Harvey also always listened to his children’s opinions. He said: “We allow our kids to express their thoughts, they can say whatever they want.” And after knowing what their children think, Harvey always says: “Okay, this is what’s going on in our family.”
3. Teach your kids to take responsibility for their lives
In episode 409 of season 4 of the famous TV show Oprah’s Life Class, Steve Harvey, as a guest, shared about the importance of teaching his children to study, work hard and take responsibility for their lives through the story of him not allowing his son to use a car when he went to college.

Harvey shared the importance of teaching kids to take responsibility for themselves on Oprah’s Life Class.
Harvey shared: “My boys were crying and whining and their mother seemed to support their demands and they took advantage of that. When I walked in, I was really angry, so I pulled the boys into the room and said, ‘Let me explain this to you. You can’t come to me for anything,’ because I’m still a woman and I have the same maternal instincts as any other woman… She said, ‘That’s our child, we have to meet it,’ and I said, ‘No, honey, we have to do it differently with our boys. They have to learn to achieve things at different stages in life… And we got the car back.’” The car will be a gift from Harvey to his sons if they graduate from college and will be given to them when they receive their diplomas.
4. Remind your children of the importance of knowledge and life skills over money
After many years working in the entertainment industry, Steve Harvey has achieved the fame, money and admiration that many people dream of. However, that time in entertainment also helped him understand the importance of knowledge and life skills over money.
Harvey teaches his children about the importance of knowledge in a video he made for his fans.
With the hope that his sons will also understand that, Harvey and his 3 sons appeared together in a short video that he planned to make to share with his fans. In the video, Harvey wants his children and everyone to know that what everyone needs to prioritize in life is knowledge. He said: “Don’t pay attention to what people have achieved, you need to focus on the knowledge they have learned, in return that will teach you the lessons you need.”
