Houston artist unveils Beyoncé mural ahead of ‘Cowboy Carter’ tour stop

A Houston artist has unveiled her latest mural featuring Beyoncé ahead of the Houston native’s concerts at NRG Stadium this month.

Devona Stimpson, an award-winning muralist, is no stranger to honoring the Houston icon, painting a mural in 2024 to commemorate her latest award-winning album “Cowboy Carter.” Stimpson’s latest mural features Beyoncé — in all red — reaching for her cowboy hat atop her head, and the words “From Houston with Love” written beside her.

The mural outside Grooves of Houston, 2300 Pierce, also includes the iconic Houston ‘H’ hand signal with the words “3rd Ward” above it.

Stimpson worked for 10 days on the mural, which was commissioned by the owners of Grooves of Houston, she said.

“I’ve been wanting to do a Beyoncé mural because they aren’t that many Beyoncé murals in Houston,” Stimpson said of the mural she did in 2024, noting that there are some inside of businesses. “But there’s not as many as you think there would be, being who she is and how popular she is. And how this is like her city.”

While Stimpson isn’t able to attend the Houston icon’s concert this month, Stimpson said she feels a part of the tour just “being able to create artwork to kind of honor her and something for the Beehive to embrace and be excited about.”

The “Cowboy Carter” tour kicked off in late April at SoFi Stadium near Los Angeles. She brings the show to Houston for shows June 28 and 29 at NRG Stadium.

For those looking for “Cowboy Carter” festivities, Grooves of Houston is planning events from June 27 to 30, including line dancing lessons, a mechanical bull and a Rodeo Royalty crowning.
