Henry Cavill’s portrayal of Geralt of Rivia is so incredible that it inspired Mackenyu to create some amazing sword fighting scenes in One Piece.
Actor Henry Cavill has proven his abilities over the years. However, his most epic role, aside from Superman, would be as Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher.
Henry Cavill’s sword skills inspire Mackenyu’s fight scenes
Actor Henry Cavill had to work hard to learn the art of sword fighting, especially when his character had a sword fight with Vilgefortz in season 3 of The Witcher. It was Henry Cavill’s sword skills in The Witcher that inspired Mackenyu’s fighting scenes in the live-action One Piece movie.
And Mackenyu’s performance as Roronoa Zoro in the live-action adaptation of One Piece received praise from the audience. His smooth fighting scenes were especially appreciated by viewers.
As seen, the live-action One Piece season 1 was very successful. The movie broke the anime adaptation curse and season 2 is in production.

While each actor plays their role to perfection, it’s Mackenyu’s portrayal of the Pirate Hunter that makes the film so much more compelling. In the eye-popping fight scenes featuring the Straw Hat Pirates, Zoro’s swordplay is on a whole other level.
In an exclusive interview with CinemaBlend, the interviewer asked One Piece director Marc Jobst a tough question about how he manages to pull off such fluid fight scenes.

Marc Jobst emphasized that the fewer cuts in a fight scene, the more viewers will appreciate the beauty of the fight scene. The action scenes on the One Piece set are filmed in a very special way. This requires the production team to prepare special recording equipment.
In addition, the actors also need to act well and have good physical strength to perform many dangerous action scenes themselves. They also have to memorize the movements so that the director can perform long and smooth shots at the same time. A long shot can keep the camera moving continuously and around the action, bringing eye-catching, true action scenes. The cameraman will also take advantage of his skills to capture the movements smoothly.
Lack of Guidance from Eiichiro Oda Puts Mackenyu in Trouble
There’s no denying that the One Piece live-action was successful because Eiichiro Oda was a key part of the show’s production.

However, that didn’t make it any easier for the actors on set. The lack of direction from Oda-Sensei to the actors made their task more difficult. In an exclusive interview via Cosmopolitan, Mackenyu shed light on how the lack of direction from the creator pushed him to work harder on the role.
He said, “It would have been a lot easier if he had given me specific, detailed tips and information on what to do with Zoro, but he didn’t. That made things difficult.”
While this made things difficult for the actors on set, it allowed the actors, especially Mackenyu, to come up with their own interpretations of the character, creating their own unique take on the character while still respecting the source material.
