Henry Cavill’s 98% Rotten Tomatoes Spy Thriller Tom Cruise Said “Could Have Been Better” Is Still a Global Streaming Hit

Henry Cavill’s Highlander reboot is preparing to begin filming soon — with a major star joining the cast courtesy of a Collider exclusive report — but one of the star’s older projects has found continued streaming success. Cavill stars alongside Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Fallout, the 2018 Mission: Impossible movie following Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his journey to stop a group of terrorists from detonating three plutonium cores at different cities around the world. Mission: Impossible – Fallout is currently streaming on Paramount+, and it’s one of the most popular movies on the streamer at the time of writing, charting in countries such as Italy, Indonesia, Nicaragua, and more. The film earned scores of 98% from critics and 89% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes on its way to grossing $824 million at the global box office against a $178 million budget.

During a 2018 interview with Fatherly, Mission: Impossible – Fallout director Christopher McQuarrie revealed both he and Tom Cruise were dissatisfied with the film’s ending, particularly the helicopter action sequence. Cruise called McQuarrie during post-production near the film’s final release date, and told him he felt like they “really let people down” and that the “helicopter chase could have been better.” He also didn’t hold back and told his director, “The whole ending could have been better.” Neither the helicopter chase nor the final ending seemed to bother fans or critics, though — the film is widely viewed as the best Mission: Impossible movie and one of the best action movies ever. McQuarrie has directed both Mission: Impossible movies after Fallout, and he’s working with Tom Cruise on the script for Top Gun 3.

When Does ‘The Final Reckoning’ Come to Streaming?

Paramount has yet to announce when The Final Reckoning will be available to watch at home. However, the film now has a tab on Prime Video with a note that says “coming soon,” meaning information about its VOD release date is likely coming soon, possibly even in the next week. Mission: Impossible 8 has now been in theaters for over a month, so it’s about time for it to move away from its phase of theatrical exclusivity after grossing over $540 million at the global box office. It will likely be closer to the end of the summer before the film begins streaming on Paramount+.
