The actor is set to beef up his watch collection with a new gig as a Longines ambassador

Henry Cavill has serious range. We’ve seen him as the lead in Superman, as Gus March Phillipps in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and Napoleon Solo in A Man from U.N.C.L.E. Just as Cavill prides himself on the varied nature of his on-screen roles, he is also known to take his watch game pretty seriously.
Recently we’ve spotted him rocking all kinds of horological flexes; graily sports tickers, dress watches, field watches and iconic chronographs have all gained noticeable airtime on the actor. And now we can expect to see one watch brand in particular on his wrist because he’s scored himself a headline slot in the world of horology as a Longines ambassador.
“In Henry, we recognise a real affinity with our brand’s values. His sophistication, genuine warmth and multifaceted personality reflect what elegance means today,” says Longines CEO, Matthias Breschan. “Whether commanding the screen in epic productions or sharing his passions for aviation and equestrianism [his hobbies are flying and horse riding], he maintains an authenticity and grace that makes him a clear embodiment of the Longines spirit.”
Given the Swiss watchmaker’s legacy, Cavill’s action movie credentials tie nicely into the watchmaker’s DNA. This is a brand that’s been involved in alpine ski timekeeping since 1924 and its well-known links to aviation (Longines technology was used by legendary explorers and aviators like Elinor Smith, Howard Hughes and Richard Byrd as well as WWI pilots) are seen in models like the Spirit Flyback. Longines is a brand whose watches do a lot without having to shout about it – a trait that ranks them highly among watch gurus who like to fly under the radar, albeit elegantly.
Take it from Cavill himself. “What draws me to Longines is their understated elegance. True quality doesn’t need to announce itself. It’s evident in every detail and in every action. This is a philosophy, backed by generations of precision craftsmanship and artistry, that resonates deeply with my own values,” he says. Indeed, getting the call up to be an ambassador is a pretty big deal.
“Longines ambassadors of elegance are part of our family and it is extremely important to us to build a strong and lasting relationship with them,” Breschan told GQ in 2023. “Consequently, they are chosen very carefully: they have to perfectly embody the brand’s DNA and share its values.”
Cavill’s thing for precision timepieces is pretty well known and likely contributed to his Longines ambassadorship. He’s worn Omega Seamaster and De Ville models and a Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris – the kinds of tickers worth gassing up for their blend of craftsmanship, design and horological precision. Throw in a Longines Master Collection Moonphase or classic Heritage Flagship and you’ve got yourself a mighty line-up, the kind of nod-inducing tickers that hold their own in some pretty tough horological circles.
Henry Cavill takes over from Regé-Jean Page on Longines’ starry list of ambassadors of excellence, which also includes Kate Winslet and Jennifer Lawrence, and given how at home the Longines Flagship Heritage Moonphase Automatic looks on his wrist, it’s sure to be a great fit.
