Who would have thought that Henry Cavill’s muscular body, which everyone loves, would be a rare obstacle he encountered while filming The Witcher.
After The Witcher aired on Netflix on December 20, experts and global audiences did not hesitate to praise Henry Cavill, who played the role of Geralt of Rivia so well. With his passion and extensive knowledge of the witcher universe, combined with his top-notch acting skills, it seems that Henry has created a Geralt so perfect that even if you try to find flaws, you cannot point out any flaws.
That’s just the surface that we see on the small screen, but behind the scenes, it turns out that this handsome actor still has some things he’s not satisfied with about his favorite role: He’s too muscular, with such strong muscles that the character’s costumes can’t “take the heat”, often tearing to the point of having to change into another set to continue filming.
On the small screen, he looks so comfortable, but who knows how many clothes he has torn because of his muscular body.
It is known that Henry has an ideal muscular body that makes many sisters fall, and his brothers both admire and envy. However, who would have thought that this body that everyone loves is one of the rare obstacles he encountered during the production of The Witcher.
In an interview with Polygon, costume designer Tim Aslam said that Henry was extremely interested in this series, so he actively participated in the whole process of designing costumes for Geralt. However, his body is too muscular, especially his biceps, making it difficult to wear one outfit for a long time, especially after intense action scenes. This often causes the design team to be pushed into a deadline to create new clothes for Henry in time for filming according to Netflix’s schedule.
Henry Cavill’s “oversized” biceps have caused many witcher costumes to tear during filming.
Shirts often tear due to their large biceps, but what about pants? During The Witcher press tour in Manilla, Henry also admitted: “I had a lot of trouble with the leather pants that Geralt wore during his adventures. The problem is that they always stretch out after a period of intense activity, and they don’t look as nice as before.”
If you don’t know, all of Geralt’s action and sword fighting scenes in the film were performed by Henry himself. He refused to use a stuntman so that he could live in the character himself, experience all of the character’s stories, from dialogue to battle scenes. With his large body and having to constantly roll around on set, it would be strange if Henry’s leather pants didn’t wear out quickly.
The clothes were tight and he often had to act in action scenes, but Henry still completed his role excellently.
In addition to the costumes, the actor’s makeup and hair were also taken care of especially carefully. Tim said: “Our first job when starting a new working day is to do the actors’ makeup. There are two reasons: First, this process takes a lot of time; second, it is an extremely important part of the series. I wanted to give Geralt a witcher look, both domineering and wild, but also a bit easy on the eyes.”
Despite the trouble, Henry still loves the costumes in his films. Screenwriter Lauren Schmidt Hissrich even revealed that there were many days when the actor wore Geralt’s armor while innocently preparing breakfast or taking a nap, which was extremely comfortable and not uncomfortable at all.
Most importantly, fans were very satisfied with Henry’s performance, there is nothing to complain about this talented guy.
