To have a strong and standard body in Man of Steel, the two actors Henry Cavill (as Superman) and Michael Shannon (as General Zod) had to join the training with Mark Twight (the trainer of the movie 300). While Michael Shannon had to do many push-ups every day, Henry Cavill “ate a lot and trained like a monster”.
Specifically, during the 5 months of physical training for the film, Henry Cavill ate more than 5,000 calories/day and was forced to sleep 9-10 hours per night. Fortunately, after starting filming, the actor was able to reduce the amount of exercise and food intake.
Henry Cavill further explained: “At that time, they cut my ration down to 2,500 calories a day. During each shoot, I was ordered to wake up early and have an hour of exercise before work. But when it came to the shirtless scenes, I actually had to stop eating. It was a difficult time, but it all paid off.”
When asked what he ate on the first day after filming ended, Henry Cavill said, “I had an apple pie, a giant ice cream and a huge, super-quality pizza.”
