Superman actor Henry Cavill says women often exhibit “double standards” when it comes to everyday sexism.

He says he often gets catcalled in the street and says women wouldn’t like it if the same thing happened to them.

Cavill also says he doesn’t like it when people proposition him in front of his girlfriend.

He was speaking to the Sunday Times, external ahead of the release next week of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Cavill said: “If a girl shouts something like ‘Oi, love, fancy a shag?’ to me as I walk past, I do sometimes wonder how she’d feel if a builder said that to her.

“Although, of course, I wouldn’t feel physically threatened, as she might.”

The 32-year-old says he still has women come up and talk to him when he’s out with his girlfriend, Bristol University student Tara King.

“I’ve heard some things. I don’t mind it, unless I’m with my girlfriend and someone is being complimentary to me in order to disrespect her.

“The pressure that comes from dating someone in the public eye is enormous. Because that person’s fans of the opposite sex dislike you, there’s often a deep and nasty backlash.”

He’s been touted as one of the possible replacements for Daniel Craig as James Bond.

The actor said his Bond would be “slightly more Sean Connery” than Craig’s and would be arrogant and cultured “with a talent for killing”.
