Filming on The Rings of Power Season 3 Set to Wrap in Fall 2025 — Rings of Power coming soon!

It has been nearly a year since Amazon Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power ended its second season. Fans of the show, which was nominated for a 2025 Emmy Award for Outstanding Visual Effects, may have to wait even longer for Season 3 than anticipated.

In an interview with Deadline, Robert Aramayo, who plays Elrond in The Rings of Power, said he is now filming Season 3 of the J.R.R. Tolkien-inspired fantasy series. The third season is filming in London, while the first season was shot in New Zealand, like the Peter Jackson movies.

Aramayo, who was promoting his new film, I Swear, in which he plays a man with Tourette’s Syndrome, said that filming Rings of Power Season 3 will keep him busy up until the end of this year. He added, laughing, “And then I’ll try and get a job fast.”

Rings of Power premiered in 2022 after its first season began filming back in February 2020. However, production was halted for a bit due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. It resumed in September of that year, with filming wrapping up in New Zealand in August 2021. The second season of the fantasy epic began filming in the United Kingdom in October 2022 and continued until June 2023.

Season 2 premiered on Prime Video in August 2024 with its finale airing on Oct. 3, 2024. Based on the production times of previous seasons, it’s unlikely that fans of Middle-earth will see new episodes of The Rings of Power in 2026. However, there has been no official word from Amazon regarding a Season 3 premiere date.

The latest The Rings of Power Season 3 update came in June 2025 when three new cast members were announced ahead of the new season. Andrew Richardson (Extrapolations), Zubin Varla (Andor), and Adam Young (The Witcher: Blood Origins) are all set to join the cast for the third season. Details on their roles are scarce, but Richardson will be a series regular, with Varla and Young set to have recurring roles on the show.

Plot details for Season 3 have also remained at a minimum, but it has been confirmed that the upcoming season will have a significant time jump. The official logline for Season 3 reads: “Jumping forward several years from the events of Season 2, Season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.”

Reviews from critics and fans have been mixed regarding The Rings of Power, with Season 1 garnering an 84% Rotten Tomatoes critic score but just a 38% rating from audience reviews. Season 2 also received a Certified Fresh 84% from critics, but a much lower 59% from fans.

The first two seasons of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power are streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
