The tides will change for the Phoenix Suns this offseason. The severity of said change is unknown, but owner Mat Ishbia proclaiming “changes are coming” set fans around the Valley on edge with the aggressive style the Suns owner has illustrated in the past. Franchise guard Devin Booker has remained consistent through the rough 2024-2025 season, being a beam of light for the future.

Despite that, Booker talked to the Arizona Republic on April 3rd, where he discussed his eligibility for a possible two-year contract extension for $149.8 million this offseason. The four-time All-Star stated that it hadn’t crossed his mind.

Booker on contract extension with Suns:

“I haven’t even thought about it to be honest,” Booker said. “It’s a great situation to be in, though. Longevity in this league. Every year you can get, somebody wants you for an extra year or two, that’s always a pleasure. You never know when the game is going to stop.”

The interview happened before Phoenix was eliminated from Play-In contention and head coach Mike Budenholzer was fired, so doubt about the extension could have crept into his mind. However, the 28-year-old has been firm on his love for the Valley and wanting to be with the franchise for his entire career.

“I’ve been in long enough where I’ve watched some of my heroes and idols just slowly get out of the league, and you see how it hurts them,” Booker said. “I don’t want to think about the day that I have to do that. It’s nice to be up for an extension.”

Ishbia has swatted away rumors of trading Booker and will approve the extension offer to the superstar guard this summer. Changes will happen, but one thing that the front office and fans hope stays the same is that Booker remains in a Suns jersey.
