“I can’t sing anymore,” the singer admitted to the crowd after his voice became inaudible.
Country Superstar’s Heartbreaking Admission, ‘I Can’t Sing Anymore’ originally appeared on Parade.
Just three days into their new tour, a country superstar was several songs into their concert in Atlantic City, New Jersey when they made a heartbreaking admission. Facing the crowd, they said, “I can’t sing anymore,” before promising, “I’ll make it up to you.” The emotional moment left fans stunned and concerned as the singer exited the stage.
According to American Songwriter, Darius Rucker, former lead singer of 90s rock band Hootie and the Blowfish, noticed his voice wasn’t up to par while onstage. However, he was determined to power through his scheduled set.

Three songs in, Rucker told the audience, “Y’all I can’t sing anymore. I will play one more song. I promise you we’re going to figure this out.”
He added, “This never happened. I physically can’t sing. I will make this up to you.”
Before ending the night, Rucker performed his hit song “Wagon Wheel.” After the concert, American Songwriter shared a screenshot from Rucker’s Instagram, where he expressed his regret over not being able to reschedule the canceled show.
“Atlantic City. Thank you so much for coming out Saturday night. I feel awful and I’m so sorry — I have never lost my voice in all my years of performing,” the post began.
“We looked at every option to reschedule, but unfortunately, it’s just not possible this year, so we’re issuing full refunds. The venue will send details to you directly.”
Rucker concluded, “Thank you so much for all your kind messages wishing me well. Love y’all and see you soon.”
Per an Instagram post, the singer and songwriter is scheduled to play Hollywood, Florida, and Tampa, Florida, beginning July 19. The first leg of his U.S. dates concludes in Washington State on September 21.
Rucker continues his tour in the United Kingdom through October, followed by two performances in South Carolina. He then heads to Canada, where the tour runs through the end of October. The final show of the tour is scheduled for December 2025 in Naples, Florida.
