Coldplay delivered a spectacular performance in Northern California as the beloved British rock band performed the first show of their 2025 tour in the United States.
“Everybody OK? You sure you came to the right concert?” singer Chris Martin quipped early in the set as 45,000 enraptured fans screamed their approval. The dynamic frontman was in top form on the night, exhibiting his trademark charm and charisma, along with boundless energy as he danced across Coldplay’s oversized stage and catwalk.
Over 2 hours, the band delivered an array of hits throughout their impressive career. Highlights includes an uplifting rendition of “Paradise,” followed by the heartwarming A Rush of Blood to the Head classic “The Scientist.” “Clocks,” “Yellow,” “Viva la Vida” My Universe” elicited some of the loudest cheers of the night. Videos and the full set list can be found below.
The entire performance was augmented by stunning visuals, including colorful lighting displays, cannons of confetti, balloons bouncing in the crowd, powerful pyrotechnics and fireworks soaring into the sky. Despite the massive setting — this marked the first stand-alone concert ever hosted at Stanford Stadium — Coldplay managed to make sure everyone in the crowd felt included in the party. Throughout the night, Martin encouraged the audience to sing or dance along. At one point, the frontman had the lights turned up so that he could better see the crowd and proceeded to read many of the signs fans had brought with them. There were birthday shoutouts, song requests and messages from fans who had traveled thousands of miles for the concert. Martin gave special attention to a fan whose sign revealed they’d beaten cancer. The rock star proclaimed that the entire night was in their honor.
Coldplay’s 2025 U.S. Tour
Coldplay’s North American leg will continue with performances through the end of July. The Stanford show was their first official concert on U.S. soil since 2023, though the group did play a handful of promotional appearances last year in support of their latest album Moon Music.
The Music of the Spheres World Tour has already set a record as the most commercially successful tour in rock history. The trek, which began in 2022, has reportedly earned more than $1.26 billion, with over 11 million tickets sold.
