Charlotte Flair Reacts to John Cena Breaking Her Dad Ric Flair’s Legendary World Title Record

Charlotte Flair Reacts to John Cena Breaking Her Dad Ric Flair’s Legendary World Title Record : Records are destined to be broken. I don’t like to speak for my dad but I think in this case I can, John was the guy to do it. “And I don’t think I could be more proud of John.”

John Cena made history at WrestleMania 41 when he defeated Cody Rhodes and officially became the first 17-time World Champion in WWE history—surpassing the record long held by Ric Flair. Now, Ric’s daughter, Charlotte Flair, is sharing her thoughts on the milestone that shook the wrestling world.

Speaking to The Takedown on SI, Charlotte made it clear there’s no bitterness in the Flair household about Cena reaching that historic mark—only respect.

“Records are meant to be broken. I don’t wanna speak for my dad, but I think in this case I can, John was the guy to do it. And I think he couldn’t be more proud of John. Even me seeing John Cena and what he means to the industry and what he means to me as a performer, I don’t think it was sad. The record stood the test of time for a very long time and it was finally broken.”

The historic moment came during a WrestleMania weekend that was bittersweet for Charlotte herself. She suffered a tough loss to Tiffany Stratton on night one of the event, missing her own shot at adding another world title to her resume. But when asked about Cena’s record-breaking win, the Queen made it clear her competitive focus has always been a little more personal.

“The first part of my career, I really didn’t think about it. Now that I’m so close, I don’t think for me it’s about tying or breaking John, but… could I have the opportunity to tie or break my father. The competition was with him, not necessarily tied to Cena.”

Charlotte sits at 14 World Championships herself, putting her right alongside Randy Orton as the closest to potentially reaching or even surpassing her father’s once-unthinkable record.

While Charlotte’s next steps will play out at WWE Evolution 2 next weekend in Atlanta, the talk of world titles—and family legacy—won’t be leaving her story anytime soon.

What’s your take—do you want to see Charlotte break Ric Flair’s record, or should John Cena’s 17th title be where it ends? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
