Beyonce Says Mental Health Care for African-American Workers Needs Attention
Beyonce (38 years old) and her BeyGOOD Foundation have pledged $6 million along with Twitter’s Jack Dorsey (43 years old) to support and care for mental health for workers amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The singer announced the commitment on her personal page on April 23 (US time). Her foundation will coordinate with the National Alliance in Mental Illness (NAMI) to support workers in her hometown of Houston as well as New York, New Orleans and Detroit.
Beyonce has previously spoken out about the disproportionate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on African-American workers. She always thought she needed to do something to support them, and if possible, she wanted to care for all situations that needed mental health care, regardless of skin color.
She said workers need support with medical testing, mental health care, and food supplies both during and after the pandemic. The singer said she has reached out to many health centers to provide health care support for them.
Over the weekend, while attending the One World: Together at Home concert, Beyonce once again spoke about the African-American community. “This virus is killing black people at an alarming rate,” she said. She encouraged everyone to raise their health awareness and committed to finding ways to support them.
