Beyoncé a No-Show at People’s Choice Country Awards as She Is Shut Out Again
Beyoncé conquered pop music, first as a member of the R&B girl group Destiny’s Child and then as a massive solo phenomenon. After dabbling in country at various points in her career, the Houston, Texas-born artist decided to dive right in with this year’s Cowboy Carter. Despite shattering multiple records, the Country Music Association shut Beyoncé out of its 2024 nominations. And the same thing happened again during Thursday’s (Sept. 26)
Beyoncé Was Night’s Most-Nominated Artist
Pop-country queen Shania Twain hosted the second-ever People’s Choice Country Awards Thursday (Sept. 26) at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry. NBC introduced the spin-off of its long-running People’s Choice Awards in 2023.
The People’s Choice Country Choice Awards is unique in that it’s up to the fans to decide both nominees and winners. And the fans resoundingly nominated Beyoncé —12 times, more than any other artist of the night. The “16 CARRIAGES” singer was up for the People’s Artist of 2024, Female Artist of 2024, and Social Country Star. She also scored nods in The Song of 2024 category for “Texas Hold ‘Em” and The Album of 2024 category for Cowboy Carter.
Despite her status as the night’s most-nominated artist, Beyoncé failed to claim a single trophy. In fact, the “Lemonade” singer didn’t even appear to be in the audience.
Backlash From the BeyHive
Even while breaking ground, Cowboy Carter sparked much debate about its country qualifications. Beyoncé herself famously said, “This ain’t a country album, this is a Beyoncé album.” Still, being this year’s most-nominated artist, her fans no doubt expected her to nab at least one win.
“Not 1, but all 12 of her nominations??” one outraged BeyHive member wrote on X/Twitter. “Oh yeah, I’m tearing some s— up today!”
However, Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter collaborator, Shaboozey, did take home the trophy for New Artist of 2024. And the “A Bar Song (Tipsy) singer shouted out Queen Bey in his acceptance speech.
“Thank you Beyoncé, you’re amazing,” concluded Shaboozey, whose real name is Collins Obinna Chibueze.
The 29-year-old Virginian is the People’s Choice Country Awards’ first Black winner. He collaborated with Beyoncé on “Spaghetti” and “Sweet Honey Buckiin’.”
