Chicago Sky star Angel Reese is one of the biggest names in the WNBA, and has played a pivotal role in the league’s growth over the past couple of years.
The former LSU standout is heading into her second season in the league, and is widely expected to continue to establish herself as one of the premier defenders and rebounders in the league. In addition to being a star on the court, she also has a popular podcast off of it titled “Unapologetically Angel,” which has 138,000 YouTube subscribers.
On a recent episode of the show, Reese was joined by rapper and reality television personality Chrisean Rock. Among the various topics they covered, the one that seemed to draw the most attention was the discussion of the WNBA’s pay.
While Rock shared a popular stance on the fact that WNBA players should be paid more when asked about what she wants to see for women’s sports, her comparing Reese to Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James caught a lot of attention on social media.
“Yall gon be mad. But LOGICALLY she right,” wrote one fan.
“she lowkey right,” added another.
“Even Angel knows she lyin,” joked another.
“Angel Reese is real for that, understanding you can’t get paid if there’s no money, but it’s coming! Respect,” commented a fourth.
“Even she had to laugh at that,” said another.

Since being shared, the video has eclipsed four million views, and generated thousands of comments. While many fans are poking fun at the comparison between James and Reese which Reese herself chuckled at, what Reese said about the pay increase is absolutely correct.
She, along with Caitlin Clark have been the catalysts for to the league’s popularity skyrocketing. The two young stars being so popular played a major factor in the WNBA securing an 11-year media rights deal in July, worth $2.2 billion. The surge in popularity also gives the Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) some leverage in its ongoing CBA negotiations.
So, while fans will use this as an opportunity to poke fun at Reese, the WNBA is in as good a position now as it ever has been.
