Nearly four years after the shocking death of Amy Winehouse, the first trailer to the highly anticipated documentary film, “Amy,” provides a glimpse at the life of the Grammy-winning artist, who died at the age of 27 due to alcohol poisoning.
The trailer features a slew of photos of Winehouse prior to making it big in 2006 for her first single, “Rehab.” She can be seen dancing in the mirror, singing in the recording studio and joking around with friends.
“I felt like I had nothing new that was coming out at the time that really represented me or the way I felt, so, you know, I just started writing,” says a young Winehouse in the teaser. “I wouldn’t write anything unless it was directly personal to me, just because I wouldn’t be able to tell the story right.”
The trailer also delves into Winehouse’s meteoric rise, with footage of the late singer being followed down the street by paparazzi.

“How big do you think you’re going to be?” she’s asked.
“I don’t,” Winehouse replies. “I don’t think I’m going to be at all famous. I don’t think I could handle it. I would probably go mad.”
The film, directed by Asif Kapadia, is set to hit UK theaters on July 3, less than a month before the anniversary of the singer’s death. A24 films has acquired the US distribution rights for “Amy,” but no release date has been announced for the States.
