Mitch, 68, appeared on Loose Women today on what would have been her 35th birthday

Amy Winehouse’s dad has claimed that her ghost visits him – which he described as a “wonderful feeling”.

Mitch, 68, appeared on Loose Women along with his wife Janis on what would have been Amy’s 35th birthday.

Insisting that Amy was “with him all the time”, he said: “She comes to me a lot and my mother do… it’s this wonderful feeling.”

Describing it as an “electric impulse”, he was then asked what version of Amy visited him.

“I don’t differentiate Amy as an adult and Amy as a child,” he responded before going on to speak about Amy’s drug and alcohol addiction.

“She was dealing with her addictions, she was actively working with her addictions,” he insisted. “She was moving towards sobriety.”

He was then asked about whether he was still in denial about her addiction and he said: “I would say that with any family dealing with loss there’s an element of denial.”

Mitch also hit back at comments Paul McCartney made about his daughter. The Beatles legend said that he wished he had tried to talk to her about her addiction.

“It’s up to the person in recovery,” he insisted. “She had all the support that she needed.”

He added: “A lot of people think they can fix things – why would he be able to fix things?”

However he did say that he thought the singer was a “very nice man”.

Asked about the private way he and his family would celebrate their daughter on her birthday, he said: “Friday night dinner, we would go to my son’s and have dinner and celebrate her birthday then.”
