An Australian television reporter – Mr. Matt Doran – had an occupational accident when he was assigned to interview British singer – Adele on the occasion of the singer’s album release “30”.
The incident that occurred during the interview conducted by Mr. Matt Doran became a story that attracted the attention of the international press. Matt Doran is the host of the show “Weekend Sunrise” broadcast on Channel 7 (Australia).
To prepare for the interview, a complex plan was drawn up and a large investment was made. Matt Doran and his team flew from Australia to London (UK) to meet Adele according to a pre-arranged schedule.
Channel 7 invested up to one million AUD (equivalent to nearly 16.5 billion VND) in this plan and it is expected that if the plan is successful, they will be the only media unit in Australia to have a direct interview with Adele.
But an incident occurred when reporter Doran revealed in the interview that he had only had time to listen to one song on Adele’s new album. Immediately, the interview stopped and Adele left. Currently, the images recorded during the interview are still being kept confidential.
Doran said he accidentally missed an important email sent to him, which contained some information about the album as well as some excerpts of the main song in the album “30”, so that Doran could listen to it and have a general feeling about Adele’s new album before conducting the interview.
In the race between television channels in Australia, the interview with Adele was expected to be a highlight to help Channel 7 score points with the public. Doran accidentally missed an important email providing background information about Adele’s new album, forcing Doran to publicly admit that this was an expensive mistake in his career.
In fact, during the interview, it was Adele who asked Doran if he had heard her new album and what he thought of her fourth album. In response, Doran said: “I haven’t heard it yet.” Upon receiving Doran’s answer, Adele immediately left the interview.
Sharing about missing an important email, Doran said: “It was an unintentional oversight. This is the most important email I’ve ever missed.”
Regarding Adele feeling frustrated and leaving the interview, reporter Doran has a different perspective compared to the information that the news outlets are giving: “Adele did not leave angrily. I think it was completely the opposite.
The interview was supposed to last 20 minutes but lasted 29 minutes. Most of the interview was still about the new album. I told Adele that I had only had the opportunity to listen to the song “Easy on Me”, the other songs on the album had not been heard yet”.
Doran also confirmed that he was not officially suspended from work at the station, before that, the news outlets simultaneously reported that Doran was invited by his superiors to have a dialogue and gave him two weeks off to review the incident that had just happened.
Doran shared on social media before the interview with Adele took place that this would be a “very special” interview, and he himself could not have imagined how “very special” the interview would be…
Currently, reporter Matt Doran working for ABC (USA) is being mistaken for Matt Doran of Channel 7 (Australia) on social media, because the two have the same name and work in the media industry.
In response to this incident, Matt Doran of ABC wrote a short and humorous status on his social media account: “Go easy on me…”, which is a play on words, using the name of Adele’s new song, and a gentle response to the confusion that is happening.
