British singer Adele made everyone present at the 59th Grammy Awards held on February 12 (local time) in Los Angeles go from surprise to emotion when she broke the Album of the Year trophy in half to honor her colleague Beyoncé.

On stage to receive the award, Adele explained her action by saying that she felt she could not accept the prestigious gold-plated gramophone trophy for Album of the Year because Beyoncé’s “Lemonade” was so great. Adele also said that her album “25” was not as worthy as Lemonade.
Adele emotionally said: “I cannot accept this award. I feel so humble and also very grateful but Beyoncé is truly the artist of my life.”
Adele also confided to the audience at the Staples Center, including Beyoncé, that: “All the artists here admire you. You are our light.”
Speaking to reporters after the awards ceremony, Adele stated: “Like I said, for me, the album of the year is Lemonade.”
Adele became the first artist to win three major awards at two Grammy Awards, and in 2012 she also won big at this prestigious music award with the album “21”.
It has not been confirmed whether Adele will officially refuse the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. If this becomes true, this will be the second time in the history of the Grammy Awards that a winner has refused to accept the award.
In 1990, the singer of the hit song “Nothing Compares 2 U” Sinead O’Connor refused to accept the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Album for “I Do Not Want What I Have Not Got” because she believed that the awards ceremony had become commercialized.
