Beyoncé admits she didn’t want Blue Ivy on stage with her in honest interview about kids and Jay Z
Beyoncé has given a rare interview opening up on family life as a busy mum of three and her early relationship with husband of 16 years, Jay-Z
Beyoncé has revealed she didn’t want her daughter Blue Ivy on stage with her on her last tour.
Opening up on life as a mum in an honest chat, the 43-year-old – who shares Blue, 12, and seven-year-old twins Rumi and Sir with rapper husband Jay-Z, 54 – confessed it wasn’t her idea to have her eldest daughter take part in her Renaissance world tour last year.

But the youngster appears to have her mother’s natural performing talent as she took to the stage during a show in Paris and other cities to do a dance routine night after night, much to the delight of thousands of adoring fans in the crowd.
And while Blue is still a preteen, she looked the double of her famous mum, who first shot to fame in the Nineties as part of girl group Destiny’s Child before launching a successful solo career with hits like Single Ladies, Halo and her most recent country tune, Texas Hold’ Em.

Speaking to GQ, as the cover star of their October issue, Beyoncé said of her eldest daughter: “Blue is an artist. She has great taste in music and fashion. She is a fantastic editor, painter, and actress. She has been creating characters since she was three. She’s a natural, but I did not want Blue onstage. Blue wanted it for herself. She took it seriously and she earned it. And most importantly, she had fun! We all watched her grow more and more every night before our eyes.”
But while Blue and her siblings are part of one of the richest families in music, Texas-born Beyoncé says she has “worked extremely hard” to ensure her family and personal life are kept private. This includes keeping her kids out of the spotlight as much as possible, even if they want to be in it once they are a bit older.
She said she didn’t want her personal life to turn into a brand like some other celebrities and their kids and confessed: “It’s very easy for celebrities to turn our lives into performance art. I have made an extreme effort to stay true to my boundaries and protect myself and my family. No amount of money is worth my peace.”
Though music has “always been my priority”, Queen Bee says she still fits her work around her kids schedules, like other mums, and only tours when they are out of school. Revealing her kids go everywhere with her, she said: “They come to my office after school, and they are in the studio with me. They are in dance rehearsals. I always dreamt of a life where I could see the world with my family and expose them to different languages, architecture and lifestyles.”

In an honest mum moment, she admitted: “Raising three kids isn’t easy, but I love it. It’s grounding and fulfilling.” Revealing how life was before her and Jay had kids, she recalled how they used to communicate when they first got together back in the Noughties.
Speaking about the early days of their relationship – which most Gen Z’s won’t ever know about now technology has moved on – Bey said: “We used calling cards and Skype when we were falling in love. I couldn’t afford the international hotel bills, so I literally would get international calling cards to call him.”
But now she’s a busy mum, she revealed what she does – apart from singing – to wind down. “I make honey, paint, decorate, swim and design clothes and stages. I have written children’s books for my children and design animation. Anything creative makes me happy.
