Kid Rock beats Tommy Lee to avenge 5 years of feud

“Any man would do what I did. Being labeled next to him drives me crazy,” the rock singer explained the cause of the fight between him and Tommy Lee at the MTV Video Awards on September 9.

Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, and Tommy Lee are often mentioned together because they are both ex-husbands of actress and model Pamela Anderson. Yesterday, Rock went on a Los Angeles radio station to explain the incident.

“This has been going on for five years. The last time I had contact with him was when Pam and I were going through divorce proceedings. He picked up her Blackberry and started sending me abusive messages,” the 36-year-old rocker said. According to Rock, he calmly told Lee: “Listen, I’ll see you again. And that’s it, because I didn’t say anything else.”

But things didn’t end there. Regarding the fight at the awards ceremony, Rock said: “It was inevitable. I did what I had to do because I had put up with it for so long. I came back from the bathroom and saw Lee sitting there. He was going on a rude tirade again. That was the last straw.”

Tommy Lee, 44, said on his website: “I was sitting in my seat and Kid tapped me on the shoulder… I stood up, opened my arms, almost hugged him, said ‘Hey man. What’s up?’. And he punched me in the face… What else could I say?” Kid Rock himself said that the incident between him and Lee had nothing to do with Pamela. She herself yesterday also affirmed that she was staying out of the fight between the two husbands. “That was the most extreme action I ever took. If he was a decent person, he wouldn’t have let things get that bad,” Rock continued to defend himself. He is due to appear in court within the next 3-5 weeks.

Of his four-month marriage to the Baywatch beauty, Rock said: “The smartest thing I did was file for divorce. You have to go through that to understand what it’s really like. I loved her. But when we broke up, I thank God I got out of it.” Rocker admitted that his decision to stick with Pamela was a mistake, because after the marriage, his life was in turmoil. “All she wanted was to attract the attention of the press.” Last July, Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock made a fuss with a transcontinental wedding.
