In a deeply sorrowful announcement, Mathew Knowles, the father of superstar Beyoncé, has shared a tragic update about his health.

Mathew Knowles

At 72 years old, Mathew Knowles has faced numerous challenges, including a battle with breast cancer that he bravely overcame. However, recent developments have brought a new wave of concern and heartache to his family and fans alike.

Mathew Knowles first opened up about his struggle with breast cancer in a candid interview, hoping to raise awareness about the disease, especially among men. Despite being rare, male breast cancer is a serious health issue that can be easily overlooked. Knowles’ own battle began when he noticed a “small, recurring dot of blood” on his shirt.

This seemingly minor symptom led to a diagnosis that would change his life forever.

“I was in disbelief,” Knowles said in an interview with People magazine. After undergoing a mammogram and biopsy, it was confirmed that he had breast cancer, the same disease that claimed the lives of his mother, aunt, and great aunt.

The American Cancer Society notes that male breast cancer is rare, accounting for only about 1% of new breast cancer cases in 2015. Despite these odds, Mathew Knowles found himself facing this daunting diagnosis.

Fortunately, Knowles caught his cancer early, at Stage 1A, which significantly improved his prognosis. He underwent a mastectomy to remove the breast tissue but did not require chemotherapy.

Further tests revealed that he carried the BRCA2 gene mutation, which increases the risk of breast cancer in both men and women, as well as other types of cancer. This revelation was particularly shocking for Knowles, who had worked in diagnostic imaging but had never heard of the BRCA gene before his diagnosis.

“If I had known about the BRCA gene, I would’ve had a double mastectomy,” Knowles admitted.

He has since dedicated himself to raising awareness about male breast cancer, which he refers to as “chest cancer,” and promoting genetic testing for the BRCA2 gene mutation. His mission is to educate men, especially in the Black community, where the prognosis for breast cancer can be particularly dire.

“A whole lot has to change in the education of men about breast cancer,” he told People. “I want to save lives, especially in the Black community.” The American Cancer Society supports this effort, noting that Black men with breast cancer tend to have a worse prognosis, similar to Black women.

The health organization predicts that 2,620 new cases of invasive breast cancer in men will be diagnosed this year, resulting in more than 500 deaths.

Mathew Knowles’ story is a testament to the importance of early detection and awareness. “If you’re ahead of the curve, then your outcome will be, most of the time, great,” Knowles said. “I’m a living example.”

Despite these efforts and his optimistic outlook, the latest update from Mathew Knowles has cast a shadow over his journey.

Details of his current health status remain under wraps, leaving fans and loved ones in suspense. The strength and resilience he has shown in his fight against cancer have been inspiring, and his contributions to raising awareness have undoubtedly saved lives.

As the world waits for more information, the outpouring of support and prayers for Mathew Knowles and his family is a testament to the impact he has made.

His story is a powerful reminder of the importance of health education and the continuous fight against cancer.

The hope is that this tragic news will further underscore the need for awareness and prompt more men to get checked, potentially saving countless lives in the process.
