‘If you had a husband like mine you may not have two DUIs’ – Monique clapbacks Tiffany Haddish be so mature and full of wisdom

“If you had a husband like mine, you may not have two DUIs. If you had a husband like mine, you may not be caught up in what looks like you could’ve been grooming a chɪld… If you had one like mine, you may not sit in these positions that you can’t explain the next day.”

Mo’Nique was not holding back during her interview with Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay. The interview, which was released today (Feb. 7), saw The Parkers alum sharing some choice words for Tiffany Haddish.

“If you had a husband like mine, you may not have two DUI’s,” Mo’Nique said, referencing Haddish’s recent legal mishap. “If you had a husband like mine, you may not be caught up in what looks like you could’ve been grooming a chɪld.”

Sharpe responded: “She don’t even have a husband, let alone yours.”

Mo’Nique’s criticism of the actress follows comments Haddish made about her during her 2018 GQ interview.

“My business run different than her business. I don’t live her life. I don’t have that husband of hers,” Haddish said to the publication at the time.

Haddish’s comments were in reference to Mo’Nique slamming Netflix for allegedly lowballing her with a $500,000 offer for a comedy special back in 2017. Netflix’s alleged offer to Mo’Nique failed in comparison to other comedians.  Chris Rock reportedly made $40 million for two specials, Dave Chappelle inked a $60 million deal for three specials, and Amy Schumer racked up $11 million for one of hers. After withdrawing the offer, Mo’Nique boycotted the streamer until, in 2023, she closed a deal with Netflix for her comedy special My Name Is Mo’Nique for an undisclosed amount.

Mo’Nique Blasts Tyler Perry and Oprah

Haddish wasn’t the only person Mo’Nique targeted during her interview with Sharpe. She didn’t hold her tongue on how Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey have allegedly treated her over the years.

Mo’Nique accused Perry and Oprah of blackballing her in Hollywood and says that she has audio proof of the “Diary of a Mad Black Woman” star allegedly admitting to it. Sharpe seemingly acknowledges that it’s something he has heard off-camera. Perry has not spoken out about the alleged audio.

“I have no idea, but I am grateful and thankful that I am on the minds of people I look up to,” she explained.

When asked if she still looks up to Mo’Nique, she declined.

“I used to,” Haddish continued before explaining that she wasn’t disappointed in Mo’Nique’s comments. “It felt like an auntie talking about — you know how we do. So I was like, ‘Oh dang, I been on your mind? I didn’t even know I was on your mind. So I’m grateful.”

The Comedian Opened Up About Her Relationship With Mo’Nique
As the conversation continued, the interview stated that Mo’Nique’s comments must have hurt Haddish because they likely had a “mutual love and respect” for one another. In turn, Haddish opened up about her relationship with Mo’Nique.

“I didn’t know if there was a mutual love and respect because she’s not my friend,” she explained. “So, I get it. I’m not close to her, we’ve never had a conversation about — so at the end of the day, I understand. And I respect it. I do have respect for her, and that’s it.”

Furthermore, Haddish revealed whether fans could expect to see her throw a few jabs at Mo’Nique at any upcoming comedy shows.

“I rather not do anything behind anybody’s back — I rather do it to your face. I come from the 1900s, we talk to your face. If I got a problem with you, I’ll tell you to your face… Everybody who I have a problem with, they know I have a problem with them. And the whole world don’t know it — it’s not the whole world’s business… I don’t need to tell the whole wide world.”

Ultimately, Haddish explained that if revealing her truth is Mo’Nique’s way of “healing,” she’s all for it as she’s also on her healing journey as well.

Here’s What Mo’Nique Previously Said About Tiffany Haddish
During her appearance on ‘Club Shay Shay,’ Mo’Nique took the time to address Tiffany Haddish and the comments she made during a 2018 interview with GQ Magazine. At the time, Mo’Nique was suing Netflix for racial discrimination after they declined to offer her as much money as other comedians for a comedy special.

However, Haddish disagreed with Mo’Nique’s decision.

“My business run different than her business,” Haddish said at the time. “I don’t live her life. I don’t have that husband of hers. I’m looking at how [Netflix has] opened up so many opportunities for black females and comedy. When my people are dying, that’s when you gonna catch me protesting. I’m not gonna protest because somebody got offered not the amount of money they wanted to get offered. If you don’t like what they’re offering you, just no longer do business with them.”

In turn, Mo’Nique took a few jabs at Haddish for not having a husband like hers in her conversation with Sharpe.

“If you had a husband like mine, you may not have two DUIs. If you had a husband like mine, you may not be caught up in what looks like you could’ve been grooming a chɪld,” Mo’Nique said.
