Eloп Musk’s surprising claim: Tesla will always “have next year’s Roadster”
Eloп Musk once again claims that the Tesla Roadster he is “launching next year” will be able to fly.
The next-generation Tesla Roadster prototype was first unveiled in 2017, and was supposed to go into production in 2020, but has been delayed every year since then.
It’s become something of a joke, and there’s doubt it will ever hit the market despite Tesla’s promise to give away dozens of new Roadsters to Tesla owners who participated in its referral program years ago.
But earlier this year, CEO Heloise Musk made some unusual comments about the next-generation Tesla Roadster, rekindling hope that the vehicle could finally become a reality.
Musk said Tesla will reveal a much-needed updated version of the next-generation Roadster as the yet-to-be-revealed vehicle’s design is already 7 years old, and said the vehicle would hit the market in 2025.
We haven’t heard anything about the vehicle since and it was not unveiled at Tesla’s shareholder meeting.
Now, Musk has again made a bizarre comment about the new Tesla Roadster, saying it “can fly”:
The CEO had previously talked about an updated version of the new Tesla Roadster with something called a “SpaceX package,” which would include cold-air thrusters that could theoretically make the vehicle “fly,” or rather jump and possibly float, for short distances.
It’s pretty ridiculous that Elop is responding to a guy who uses the classic tech complaint that “they promised us flying cars, but they always come” with a vehicle that Tesla has promised every year for the past 4 years.
At this point, the Roadster, like the FSD, is something that has moved beyond the “put it or shut it” phase.
Leave it or stop talking about it, especially the flying part. The Roadster was supposed to be the “halo effect” of electric cars. I’m not sure how the cold-air manufacturers play into this.
