Barca fan names the best position for Gavi after his return, says he can’t be our ‘new Busquets’
On the Barcelona subreddit, a user named TimelyAdagio6051 asked where Gavi should play after his comeback. Many fans suggested the DM position. But the username ‘doylehungary’ explained why this is the wrong idea.
‘Why is everyone writing DMF? Think about Busi. How would you describe Busi’s body and playing style? Flick said he needs a new Busi.
‘We know that Bernal, Eric, Christensen and now Casado will play as a holding midfielder. Now Casado is a bit off, but we can’t pick and choose at the moment.
‘They have a lot in common with Busi. Static, tall, defensive players. They have to pass the ball from the back when they have the ball, which means they have to be deep, static, and cover for others.
‘Now think about Gavi. Is he static? Hard to say after the injury, but before he was the most vertical and non-static running and pressing machine on the team. He is extremely useful in the middle and in the final third because he was able to pressure 2 players at a time. On the offensive side, he was running into holes, dragging defenders, getting balls, moving around, carrying the ball, going wide or forward. Same for the national team.
‘Now after all this I have written, please for the love of God forget about this Gavi as a DMF holding midfielder topic. The kid is a box-to-box beast, a pressing bulldog, and is unbearable for opponents when assigned to man-marking. He has all the attributes to be the perfect number 8, a CM, an attacker who pushes into the final third to dribble and assist. He has none, I repeat NONE, of the attributes of the perfect DMF, double pivot or not. He will be wasted there and all his weaknesses will be magnified’.
