Congratulations pour in for Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham after big personal news.
Sophie Cunningham joined the Indiana Fever this offseason after spending her first six seasons in the WNBA with the Phoenix Mercury.
Cunningham quickly became an important part of the Fever’s success on both ends of the floor, but her season was cut short by a torn MCL suffered on Aug. 17 against the Connecticut Sun.
Her injury added to a difficult season for Indiana: Four teammates, including star guard Caitlin Clark, sustained season-ending injuries. Even so, the Fever managed to earn a playoff berth. Their seeding and first-round opponent remains to be determined.

Cunningham will be sidelined for the playoffs, but one upside to the injury is she will have time to return to the University of Missouri, her alma mater, on Friday (Sept 12). On that day, she is being inducted into the university’s athletics hall of fame as part of its six-person 2025 class. The women’s basketball program’s social media account recently shared a post promoting the event. Their post drew a heartfelt reaction from Cunningham.
“see you soon :),” Cunningham commented.
Fans reacted to the post:
“Congratulations Sophie!” A fan said.
Someone else added, “Well deserved for sure!! Congrats Soph!”
Another person wrote, “Congratulations! A well deserved Honor!”
“Congratulations to a Mizzou legend. M I Z,” a fan shared.
One more fan commented, “Congrats [Sophie]!!!! You deserve it chick!!”

During her time at Missouri, Cunningham averaged 14 or more points in each of her four seasons. She finished her career averaging 17 points, 5.4 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal per game, while shooting an impressive 50.1% from the field and 40.3% from 3-point range.
She graduated as the program’s all-time leading scorer with 2,187 points. She earned NCAA All-American honors and ranked second in both career 3-pointers made and 3-point shooting percentage.
