UCL winner, La Liga-proven GK and more: 10 keepers Barca could sign to replace Ter Stegen for free

Barcelona were dealt a brutal blow on Sunday when their captain and first-choice goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen suffered a serious knee injury during their 5-1 win against Villarreal.

It is possible that Ter Stegen will not play again this season. His return could be in the first few weeks of the 2025 season.

However, Barcelona could enter the free market and sign a goalkeeper on a free transfer to replace Ter Stegen.

Here’s a list of 10 goalkeepers they could look at, plus one bonus name.

1. Kaylor Navas. The Costa Rican won the Champions League with Real Madrid, has La Liga experience and recently left PSG. The only caveat is that he’s 37.

2. Wojciech Szczesny. The 34-year-old Polish goalie may gladly come out of retirement to help Barca. He was recently at Juventus.

3. Loris Karius. The former Liverpool goalie was released by Newcastle in June. He’s only 31 years old.

4. Jordi Masip. The 35-year-old shot-stopper played 32 matches for Real Valladolid before living for free.

5. Kristoffer Klaesson. Last season the 23-year-old goalie was playing in Polish club Raków. He wouldn’t mind doing a job at Barca.

6. Sergio Rico. The Spanish goalie is just 31 and was at PSG last season.

7. Jiri Pavlenka. The Czech goalkeeper spent one year at Bremen before leaving in the summer. He’s only 32.

8. Alexandre Letellier. The 33-year-old French goalie is also available for free after paying and winning Ligue 1.

9. Edgar Badia. The 32-year-old Spanish goalie has been a free agent after leaving Elche in August.

10. Diego Loureiro. If Barca wants a Brazilian goalkeeper for free, Loureiro is one man they could go for. He’s just 26 and available for free.

Bonus — Claudio Bravo. The Chilean is 41 and retired but he says he could step in to help Barca if they call him.
