Snoop Dogg recently shared his thoughts on missing Kendrick Lamar’s “The Pop Out” show and reflected on his career, collaborations, and the evolving state of hip-hop. Here’s what he had to say:
Snoop revealed he couldn’t attend Kendrick Lamar’s show because he was in Canada on tour with DJ Quik, Warren G, and Tha Dogg Pound. “We went over there to put the West Coast flag back up, you know what I’m saying? Someone had to do it,” he said. Despite being away, Snoop and his team made sure to watch Kendrick’s performance online. “We were in the dressing room before going on stage, streaming the whole thing on YouTube,” he shared. “Watching how K-Dot brought everyone out and commanded the stage, that’s what it’s all about.”
Snoop emphasized that age should never limit an artist’s potential. “In hip-hop, they try to categorize you as old, but no other industry does that. Look at the Rolling Stones—they’re still performing at 80,” he noted. “We’re rewriting history by proving there’s no age limit when it comes to hip-hop and business.”
Snoop and Dr. Dre recently released a 12-minute mini-movie that blends humor and action. Directed by Dave Meyers, the film showcases the duo as “hitmen who make hits” and delivers a mix of hard-hitting moments and comedic banter.
Snoop recalled how much fun they had making it. “Me and Dre know what people love about us—whether it’s our back-and-forth in music or our cinematic chemistry,” he said. Reflecting on their past work, like the cult classic *The Wash*, Snoop noted that fans love their humorous arguments and misunderstandings, which always end on a lighthearted note.
Snoop praised Dr. Dre’s vision and creative genius. “Dre makes me look and sound my best. Everything—down to the lines—is his mind at work,” he said. Snoop also revealed Dre’s ambition for bigger projects. “He’s already thinking ahead. He wants us to have acting coaches for future roles—roles no one has ever seen us play.”
