‘No excuses, clear penalty’: Mateu Lahoz on Inigo handball v Girona
“There are no excuses. That [Inigo Martinez’s handball v Girona] is a clear penalty,” former La Liga referee Mateu Lahoz has said.
“Maybe there’s a previous foul on [Alejandro] Balde, but there’s a handball,” he added.
The match official reportedly decided against awarding a penalty kick for Inigo’s actions after considering them ‘unintentional’ and stating that his arm was in a natural position.
The referee first pointed to the spot but re-considered his initial decision after the VAR review.
